Ruger OEM rings

I just bought a Hawkeye that came with 1in "medium" rings and they are comically high.

Comically high would be a scope mounted in rings on an AR 15 carry handle, but despite the comical height and distance from center of bore to center of objective, this combination still performed.

I've got the Warnes on my Mini 14, nice rings, but apparently these rings along with OEM mediums are comically high and useless
Warne Mediums are higher than Ruger Mediums. .. the lowest available in 1" diameter are the old (discontinued) Leupold for Ruger Low's, and the Ruger #3/#4 combo. In 30mm diameter the lowest are the Leupold for Ruger Medium's.

The top three rifles shown below have the Leupold 30mm Medium rings.

Lowest mounting possible to centerline of the bore has always been the goal for best performance.

How is that Red Dot sight still perform exceptionally well when mounted so high.

What is the fundamental difference that allows one to be so high and acceptable and the other not ?

Zero magnification and unlimited eye relief!! Apples to oranges. In the add picture you’ve posted I doubt the guy can even see thru the sight. Despite all of this, if you don’t have a good cheek weld you’ll get unrepeatable head positioning causing parallax. We all know what this does to group size.

It's crazy how competently I've been able to shoot all these years not knowing all these finer details.

You just sold me on a Sig Romeo 5 Red Dot for my 870 Slug gun instead of a Redfield 2-7

Well if you’re shooting a shotgun again we are talking an entirely different thing. We started with riflescopes and transitioned into red dots and now we are ,well you are, talking about shotguns!! Pretty sure ivemademy point. Accuracy for one person is hitting an 8” plate at twenty yards!! That’s combat shooting where iclose is good enough. What I competei in that 8” plates at 350 yards with a rimfire, well closewont get nothing but a zero!! You start off talking about rifles with scopes mounted high and then it’s red dots and then shotguns?? Pick a subject I’ll show all mine if you wanna show all yours?? Talks cheap. The original post was about Ruger rings just to remind you as your easily derailed!!ps I really don’t care what you put on ur slug gun, obviously buy cheap junk!!

You should lay off what ever your on.
There's no rational discussions to be had with a narcissist like yourself.
Enjoy your life.....if your able to.

Lockdowns are over folks, everyone take a deep breath.

Personally, I want my line of sight as close to the bore as possible... I have never had a problem getting a solid and consistent cheek-weld with low mounted optics, or with the irons when the scope is removed.

Think you may need to read the original post, it was about Ruger rings, Then you drifted into red dots and then into shotguns with red dots. Pretty sure your the one on meds bud. Big competitive shooter that compares a scope ,3X9X40 in your words, too a red dot and shows a Vortex add with a guy "APPARENTLY " looking thru the optic. Those in the know realize the closer to the bore the optic on a hunting firearm the more natural it is too shoot. But hey if your a Giraffe more power to yuh! Your the narsassist haha

Well everyone on this site knows you speak from experience! I also guided for a living(St.Lawrence Outfitters) for 15 years and have shot competitively with pistols, bows, shotguns and all forms of rifle. You can only sit silent for so long .Sorry

Oh wow.

Do you have some literature extolling the virtues of mounting a scope on a hunting rifle further from bore line as apposed to closer?
Pretty sure he will come up with something as he didnt realize the difference between a Red dot and a scope. Thanks from the Narcassist

Yeah, they are the bulk of the rifles I use to hunt with. I like different cartridges for different purposes, but prefer a consistent and familiar platform. The Ruger M77 Mark II rifles fit me to a tee... no sense changing what ain't broke.
