I've been using One Shot to lube my pistol brass for reloading on progressive presses. While not necessary with carbide dies, it does make the presses run so much smoother. I am down to my last precious can, as we can no longer get it here in Canada.

A while ago I was shopping at the Chinesium Palace (Princess Auto) and saw they had WD-40 products on sale. I grabbed a can of their PTFE dry lube spray. I used it on a few things, and noticed it smelled A LOT like One Shot. I sprayed a small amount of both products on a piece of sheet metal and let them dry. They both appeared very similar.

I needed to load some .357 and .38 Special ammo, so I thought what the he!!. I sprayed a thin layer on the inside of a large Ziploc bag and dumped in my brass and shook it around to get a thin film on the brass. Dumped it into a bowl and let it dry. After loading it, the finished rounds look and feel the same as with the One Shot. Looks like I found a replacement for the Hornady spray.

Thanks for the tip!

For future reference, you can order one shot from Brownells.
I think the idea here is that the WD-40 is a cheaper, more readily available alternative. If they're the same or similar, it makes more sense to run this stuff than the Hornady, no?

Price of the stuff has quadrupled it seems, if you can even find it on the shelf. If the WD product is same but cheaper I am grabbing some.

After running ‘low’ on Hornady One Shot last year I scoured Canada and couldn’t find even one can on anyone’s shelf.
Called Hornady direct for an answer and finally found out why it isn’t being shipped up into Canada. You won’t believe this but it’s true…can’t import into Canada because it doesn’t have any instructions in FRENCH on the can!! Sooo…while on vacation visiting a friend in Florida I ordered a dozen cans from Scheels and had my friend throw it in their truck when returning to Ontario in the spring. Love that stuff, should last me a few months, lol.
BUT I’ll grab a can of that specialty WD-40 and play with it. Backup is always good.

Yeah that's fair. Of all the things I spend money on shooting though the One Shot isn't one I worry about much. A can goes a long, long way. I don't know that I even use a full can in a year - and I shoot quite a bit.

Good little tip, but in my experience One-Shot isn't a great lube to begin with. Fine I suppose for pistol brass and such, but there is certainly much better choices for tougher sizing jobs, so I prefer to use better lube all the time.

What is the reasoning behind why we can't get it up here anymore?
French label/directions is one reason. New VOC rules came into affect jan1 2024 = manufactures had to change formulas = probably not the same stuff anymore, even if you can get it.

  • Jan. 1, 2024 – VOC limits and emission potentials for the manufacture and import of products.
    • For all products listed in the Schedule, except Item 31 – Disinfectants
I bought all the Hornady one shot “dry lube” I could find last year around Christmas time. I know it’s a different product but it suffered the same fate.

Weird, I'm just looking at a dry lube for my 22lr and up pops this thread...naturally the two products I'm reading about don't exist anymore up here.
So will that WD40 dry lube work on a 22 receiver too?
