Alright folks, here's the scoop. If you were keeping tabs on my thread about a Saskatchewan gopher hunt, (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220024) things are falling in to place and it's a go.

Captain2K and I have discussed the trip and we have decided to scheduale it for the second weekend of June, the 13th, 14th and 15th. C2K has several contacts in the Swift Current area, in the Southwest corner of the Province. The plan is to arrive on Friday the 13th (boo) at the base camp. There is an old campground on his families property that is treed that we will use for the weekend. He belives there to be outhouses still on site, but cannot garuntee it. (Be advised to have whatever you deem necessary in case that falls through)

The town of Tompkins is appox. 15 miles away, so anyone not wanting to camp should look into making reservations at one of the local hotels. It is advised to bring enough food and water to last through the weekend, to prevent having to leave to resupply. We will be posting a map and directions once everything is confirmed and squared away. We will also be placing signs from the highway to the campground so nobody ends up lost.

Please remember everyone that we will be guests who are privilaged to be on private property. I ask that everyone please treat their land better than you treat your own. Pack out whatever garbage you bring in, and keep everything clean. The conditions on the prairies the last couple years have been very dry. Fires may not be permitted, so come prepared. Respect everyones rights, and above all else, stay safe.

Although I was a bit hesitant, Captain2K assures me centerfire rifles may be used safetly in certain areas, but that will depend on the given circumstances. Some places will not allow them, and we must respect that. Firing towards any irrigation pivots, structures, livestock or roads is not permitted. I know I sound like I'm preaching, I just want everyone to have a good time and go home safe.

This invitation is open to all members of canadiangunnutz.com, and you are welcome to bring your family. But we may need to cut off at a certain point I suppose. Though children and pets must be supervised at all times and please clean up after them. Pets are good, children must be kept on a leash. :p If you have intentions on coming, please respond to the poll above. It's just there to have an easy way for a quick count. I know plans can change and unforseen circumstances can arrise, but if you feel like you will make it, please let us know. While we don't want an army running around the hills, if we have an idea of how many to expect, we can arrange to have groups of X amount of shooters and have access to land accordingly.

Again, this looks to be a fun weekend, and from the last thread there are a few members who are interested. Bring your camaras, lots of ammo and whatever else you may need. C2K suggests perhaps having a contest for the largest gopher or what have you. Winner takes the pot kind of thing. And if anyone has any suggestions, please post them here so we might all have a chance to decide what will make this a good time.

Maddog has agreed to give this a sticky to keep it fresh in everyones minds. (Thanx :) ) so keep us posted on how many in your group you expect. Thanks alot.

I would like to thank you all involved in organizing this gopher hunt. I hope we can make it to a yearly event.

I'm in. I'll go with my wife. If I'm alone, then it's because I divorced for the gopher hunt. :D :D :D

I didn't see my preferred response. I'll decline and will stay as far away as possible from "group" shoots, but good luck with yours! There are plenty of gophers to go around.

A few of us CGN-ers are already planning a gopher trip out that way in late may. Have 8 or 9 interested shooters; and 6 or so confirmed attendees. We may have to make a second trip out there in June; though I'd suggest keeping your group small-ish. More than 4 or 5 active shooters gets difficult to manage, and keeping clear lines of fire is more difficult.

securing land is really easy out toward swift current. A few phone calls and you'll have access to more land than you can possibly get to - try the sask fish cops, or take out an ad in a local paper. You'll have FAR more opportunities to shoot than time to do it.

Just be safe and courteous - make sure you can trust your guests, too. Maintain a good name for all the rest of us gopher shooters :)

Are you guys carpooling, or going in separate vehicles? Anyone going from the Calgary area? Would love to try out the .17 :D

Alright folks, while were getting interest, were not there yet. In 3 months, there is the potential for alot of people to want in on this. We've decided to cap things at about 30 people. If we get more than that, first people who confirm are in. It's for safety's sake, nothing personal. Post up and let us know.

I am also planning a quick trip out there in the next couple weekends to take a peek around and see what might need to be done....will also schmooze with all the neighbours and get permissions and access!
