A found 8 of my (domestic) ducks dead tonight, pretty sure it was a mink. Back of heads and neck chewed up and skinned and only one duck was partially eaten. Piled in the back of the coop.
Is the meat from these ducks safe to eat? On average what is the maximum time you would wait from shooting a duck till skining it out?
Found at 9pm, skinned out breasts, thighs, liver, heart, and the inside fatty chunk by 11:40pm, most likely died this afternoon around 4pm, it was 22°c and sunny this afternoon. Meat currently soaking in fridge. If safe to eat but tastes bad my dog can have them. I'm hoping to salvage something from this. Asking here because most people I know would be horrified that I think about ducks as a meat source, let alone eating 7hr old partly chewed on duck that was left out side to cool.

While in only slightly cooler temps I've eaten duck shot at first light while I didn't get around to cleaning it until 9pm that night. Threw the meat in the fridge over night and ate it the next morning. The meat will be a different color but I haven't noticed a difference in taste.
Some cultures hang the ducks outside for several days before cleaning them
I've eaten mink killed ducks and rabbit before as well

Fertilizer......

Transferred bacteria, disease, parasites from the unknown attacker would be my concern
We had a racoon do similar damage, all birds were disposed of.
My concern would be disease from the wild animal.
Why I didn't take any parts that had teeth marks. Wouldn't any parasites be in egg form? People eat bear meat that is assumed to have worm eggs in it. Seaside west coast is assumed to be rabies free. Here if you are bitten by a raccoon docs won't give you a rabies shot or test, tell you there isn't any reason to worry because there hasn't been any confirmed reports of rabies this far west...

I would beg to differ, my buddy drove Medical supplies to the Clinics on VI.
Rabies vaccine was one of the commodities they delivered for Saanich, Victoria PA, QB Comox/Courtney and Port Hardy....
But, I digress the op is wanting to utilize his toils that became a thrill kill for some vermin.
