Good morning all, looks like my rain gear has walked away.

I'm looking for a "quiet" poncho type of rain gear.

Is one available, or just these noisy plastic basically tarpaulin's ?

Quiet and truly waterproof clothing rarely go together. The good thing is, if it's raining hard enough that you need to put on a waterproof poncho, you probably don't have to worry about the noise your waterproof poncho will make.

maybe look for a surplus poncho, I have one in rubberized nylon, solid colour and a camo syl-nylon hd, both are relatively quiet
the rubberized one has a bit of weight to it but not excessive

This. If it's bad enough I'm looking for truly waterproof solutions (as opposed to goretex etc) then I'm not worried about noise.

That said, for what you're looking at I'd be looking at surplus stores. I bought a surplus German police poncho from Frontier a few years ago, seemed like a great article for the price but the "medium" I ordered could fit a 6'6" 250lb+ guy (which I am not lol) so I gave it away before I ever actually used it.

I go out every day of the hunt if my bones will carry me, but will head in during a real heavy downpour.

I'd just like to stay dry during a prolonged "drizzle" or quick light shower.

I'll stay out in either of this weather events.

Its surprising how comfortable a poncho can be to sit and weather the storm sometimes too
sized big enough to cover the stump/chair and daypack, with lots of ventilation and a good hood so no water running down the neck

I run a Sylponcho.

Not too noisy and has loops so you can use it as a shelter
That is what I carry. I try and avoid wearing rain gear whenever possible, and find the poncho is a good, compact solution.

The only bad experience I have had with it was the first time I used it as a tarp in the rain and I tied the hood off on the underside of the shelter and it filled with water and dumped on me in my bivy bag... but that is totally on me , haha.

Light rain, I wear a Gore-Tex quiet camo suit, bibs and light parka. In truly foul weather I wear Helly Hansen Impertech... the problem with the Impertech is that it doesn't breath, so in warm weather or with lots of trekking, you will get soaked from the sweat you produce. I often combine the Impertech bibs with a Gore-Tex parka to good effect.
