So a Barnes 175 gr LRX bullet shot at 2900 plus FPS from a 30-06 is not a Adequate ELK cartridge and load at 400 yards ? RJ

For sure, that thing would still be cooking at 2000+ fps at 500 yards. Plenty of jam to expand fully at that distance. The 168gr TTSX would do fine as well, you can get that to 3000fps without much issue depending on the rifle.

Yes and the LRX opens - expands easier than the TTSX does . 168 TTSX bullets Shoot Well in my 06 as well but I think the LRX is a better all around bullet . JMO RJ

Anyone tried the CX bullets? I have some I want to try out, wonder how they will be different the gmx?

During an Elk hunt with my son I used a 300 WSM with a 180 Nosler Partition at about 300 yards. one shot and one kill.

Yes and the LRX opens - expands easier than the TTSX does . 168 TTSX bullets Shoot Well in my 06 as well but I think the LRX is a better all around bullet . JMO RJ

Interesting. For a couple seasons I used a 6.5-300 Wby with 127 LRXs. Only bullets I recovered were out of a moose shot at 18 yards. Barely expanded, maybe 25% bigger frontal surface than the bullet’s original shape. And I know for a fact they were impacting at ~3400 fps.
Killed it just fine but I was underwhelmed by how the bullet looked.

As far as my 2 cents on the .30-06 at 400 yards on elk, by the time you have the experience to qualify you to take a shot like that, you’ll have learned the answer. Unfortunately for the animals, people don’t always stay within their limits. Rarely is an animal wounded, lost, or missed due to a cartridge problem.

From what I have READ they are nearly the same but a different copper alloy -Hornady has discontinued GMX and now only have the CX mono bullet. . Both different alloys then the Barnes . RJ

Either pass throughs or did not recover yep. Sometimes in the dark and the blood and the cold I miss things or don't take the time to track down every bullet lol

It probably blew the petals off. I've seen it a fair bit with barnes bullets.
