RPAL Course vs. RPAL Licence?

Sorry if this is redundant, I didn't see it discussed anywhere after a quick search:

I successfuly completed an RPAL course two weekends ago.

Do I need to wait until I get confirmation of successful completion (a certificate or something?) before I can apply for an RPAL?

This was never actually discussed during the course. In honesty, when I signed up for it I thought I'd exit the course with the RPAL in hand. I wasn't aware how it operated.

What's my next step?

Where are you located? If you're in Ontario, you'd have to get an answer from someone who lives there. If you're from anywhere else in Canada, you should have gotten copies of your course report(proof you attended and passed) to send in with your application.

Right - I was just talking to someone at the cfc today about this today. Currently the Ontario system is (or rather my understanding is):
1) The course instructor mails the test result to the CFO.
2) They stamp the test result and send it to you.
3) You then send in the stamped test result with the completed application form, the picture, and the money.
4) You pray nothing gets lost along the way.
5) They call you and your friends.
6) License shows up some time later.

Yup - that's the new procedure in Ontario. An instructor was telling me somebody tried to cheat the system and got caught, so here we are...

So rather than deal with a cheater, everyone has to put up with further delay. Sounds like a Liberal plan, alright.

Okay, this makes sense.

fwiw, the course I took was taught by a regional (municipal?) CFO who works with the local Police Force. I'm guessing the CFO you refer to is the Provincial CFO?

Dumb question II: Where do you actaully get RPAL application forms? The local Police Station?

Just in case anyone is interested, I was told by my instructor that the CFO's turnaround to return the test would be within 2 weeks. When I called the CFO last week, they told me to expect 3-4 weeks. I'm pretty sure it will be closer to 4-5 weeks by the time I get mine back.

At this rate, even though they say that applications are being processed between 5-6 weeks, I'm going to guess it will take around 8 weeks.

There is only one Chief Firearms Officer in Ontario. Unless Chris Wyatt himself taught you the course, you were taught by an FO.

People talk about the CFO when they really mean the CFO's office in Orillia. You are not going to be dealing with the CFO for most of the matters we deal with at the user level.

And you're right, this is total BS designed to make people's lives even more difficult.
 
Test results must be stamped

it takes a couple of weeks to get the results back then you can apply

Pointless to send the app in without proper stamped test results.

Who ever did the course of the OP did a crap job if you came out not knowing how to apply for your license
 
Just got my stamped results back last week - 5 weeks after taking the course and sent my rpal application on Monday.

You can send the application without the stamped test results and send them later but I am not sure it's worth taking the risk that they will be correctly matched up at the other end :(

It's worth noting as well that for some reason the test results aren't always returned together. My PAL and RPAL tests came back to me in one envelope, but my friend who I took the course with got her PAL results about a week and a half before the RPAL results came back.

If you follow what course instructors are required to advise students you will add 5-6 weeks to your wait.
I don't know how (a) people miss this thread, (b) do not believe that it works, and/or (c) do not actually read the information, but if you follow the steps you will see that it works:

Calalta you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this whole field, and by now i hope your still not thinking troll -whatever that it- but....

I was just looking over the downloadable PDF of the application for PAL and restricted. I believe when it asks you about your canadian safety course on the right hand side it says proof attached, and then for the restricted course it has a proof attached box too.
Is it not more simple to send your proof attached completed courses (if you pass) with your application together, so that they can approve your finished courses, and continue with the application?

Im only asking because it seems logical, but then again alot of things here arent :p

Send application now!

You can absolutely send in the application prior to receiving your test scores! There is a mandatory 28 day wait period when you send in your application. If you wait 4-5 weeks to get your test scores back and then send in your application, you automatically have another 28 day wait period! If you send your application in now, without test results, your 28 days starts the minute that your application arrives in Mirimachi! So by the time you wait the 4 weeks for your scores, your 28 day waiting period will have already been completed and when you get your results all you need to do is fax them in!!
Send your paperwork in now. I sent my appliaction in 3 days before I completed my RPal course. My course was the 29th of January, I mailed my application out on the 27th Of January and it is now listed on there website as being received on the 31st of January. So I am already into day 10 of the automatic 28 day wait period. I am hoping that I will have my test scores back at around the same time that the 28 day wait expires, fax them and then .........!!! And then.... who knows how long it will take! All I know is I potentially knocked 28 days out of the wait!!!

:agree: this is covered in detail in the newbie FAQ section. I waited for my stamped copies (6 weeks) then sent it all in together, I wish I didn't. I took the course in November and I'm still waiting. My 28 day wait is over tomorrow. Then who knows what delays I'll face.
