1000 yard shooting?

shoot and see targets, the tricky part with spotting scopes and scopes and bullet holes at 500 is, some days you can see them, some days you can't, humidity, lighting, mirage, it's tough. glass is to good, you see the mirage, glass is low quality, imiage is dark and blurry. long range wifi shooting camera is the middle ground, but again, low quality poor image, of HD quality and great image, that one comes with a price tag

Kind of what happened.
Sun on the target made it difficult.
Bit of wind shook the spotting scope.

Reactive targets?

He purchased a new Vortex Intensity 20-60x80 spotting scope.
It did a poor job of finding the holes in the target at 500 yards.

Any recommendations on what would work better?
Another vote for good Shoot-n-See targets. The holes in the cheap/bad ones are hard to see.

IME, spotting scopes tend to suffer at those distances and beyond. If you can justify the cost, something like a ShotMarker or a LongShot range camera are great.

Sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but no $500 spotting scope is going to get you to see bullet holes in paper at 500m.

You are going to have to up that to the $4K range to get there.

With a shotmarker E target system for $1,000 you can shoot irons out as far as you can see ( aiming mark is about 48"IIRC)for a lot less than a good quality spotter, then use your cheap spotting scope for judging the wind and mirage 🙂

I get it, you get it, and a few other guys are going to get it, however, for the average guy, with an average rifle looking to shoot 20 rounds 3 or 4 times a year, a shoot'n see target pack from the local gunshop is going to fit the budget a heck of a lot better
