Ruger Marlin 1894 stock damage from UPS?

Those factory boxes are only good for when the distributors send them out 100 at a time shrink wrapped on a pallet.

Some Stoger boxes have "Not a shipping container" printed right on it.

Boxes get tossed around, fall off conveyors, slide off counters etc, the shipper bears some responsibility of improperly packed.

UPS can deny damage claims if the goods are not packed and protected even if the box is damaged.

Packing guidelines are on the website.

That box has a crease but nothing I'd say severe enough to damage a well packed item to that extent.
Yeh, I’m not sure if they shipped the rifle like that, however that double crease is right where the break was on the stock. I don’t feel like I’m responsible for the damage since I did not pack or ship it. Hopefully Tenda sends me a return label.

They'll have no choice but to send you a return label if you force their hand. Wait to see how they intend to resolve the issue, but a worse case scenario might involve contacting your credit card company with regard to a chargeback and paying for return shipping. There is a time window on chargebacks, so be aware of that. If Tenda states that they have to wait for UPS to pay them out before resolving the issue, then it's time to call the credit card company, as reimbursement for shipping damages can take forever (if it ever actually happens).

Bottom line, give Tenda a chance to make it right, then force it right if necessary.

This is good advice, given my suspicion that Tenda's response might be less than what the OP expects. I hope I'm wrong but I have been soured one too many times by some of our site vendors, "Its not our problem and by default its yours" seems to be the common theme.

Good advice, I don’t think Tenda would leave me out to dry. You only have 90 days to file a charge back. I waited for screws for my pc carbine for longer than that through warranty. Reading other’s experience with shipping reimbursement it’s sometimes takes 3 weeks to 6 months from UPS.

I really hope they don’t. This is a pretty public forum with lots of subscribers. I have ordered from Tenda lots. I’m just glad I purchased the shipping insurance for once.

"Nothing obvious since it was in a garbage bag and taped. Once opened didn’t even realize until I went to pull it out of the plastic. There’s a crush where the stock (pictured) was and at the end of the barrel. Box had fragile on it too."

this is a bad post to be reading just after placing an order for a new rifle
So no extra layers of cardboard wrap? How was it inside, typical cardboard cut-outs for support?
pretty pathetic effort imo, but maybe thats typical? idk as have never mail-ordered a rifle before

I always figured shipping insurance was a cop-out. It should be the shippers responsibility to get it to a destination safely and intact

No extra layers but I have bought and sent many rifles like this personally with zero issues through Canada Post. This is the first time I have received a rifle through UPS.

Sending firearms myself, I agree. I have built my own boxes and put in extra padding wrapping in a contractor garbage bag and taped all the way around leaving no garbage bag exposed.

Who the hell at Tenda thought that was an acceptable way to ship a firearm!
When I ship a rifle I take a little pride in how I pack it..dear lord.

I take pictures of every box before opening, then again after it's opened to show how its packed.

If you ship alot, it becomes second nature and just takes a second.

Recently I started to take pictures when I ship, pictures of packing job before being sealed up and pictures on the post office counter to show outgoing condition of the box.
Ditto

Tenda, at least as far as I know, ship things suitably packed for normal careful shipping.

That said, UPS handling may very well exceed the standard for "normal careful shipping".

Update: I sent an email to Tenda requesting a return of the rifle. I have dealt with Ruger’s warranty before and it was less than stellar. It took 3 weeks to a month to get the parts.
3 weeks to a month is actually very good for dealing with firearm warranty in Canada, I have had multiple claims where I waited anywhere from 6 months to over a year.

This is what I’m guessing. I have shipped items similarly packed with zero complaints or issues. I have a feeling this is just UPS staff.

Took 3 months to actually get the part. I can’t test the firearm function without that stock. That will long exceed the 90day charge back. Plus I feel like I shouldn’t even be dealing with this as the consumer, since it’s a logistical problem between UPS and Tenda.

I purchased many many new rifle from many dealers selling here and all came in a factory box. Some wrapped in thick dark green or black plastic or just plain brown paper. Only if rifle come in a factory hard case that what is used then.

What Tenda did is the norm not the exception. But for UPS to damage good, it is the not the exception but the norm.
In any case - get insurance on rifle shipment.
