With deep regret.. this was me!Had customer have a few issues pinning his gas block this past weekend, so thought I would pass on a couple tips to prevent issues.
First, line up the gas block by manually inserting a 1/8 drill bit (vicegrips to hold drill bit works well) work it far enough that the shaft of drill bit is in the groove for pin.

After you have block nicely lined up and held in place with drill bit, tighten set screws well, these will hold gas block in place when installing gas block pin.

Lastly, if you have a pin starter that works best, if not just take your time with a punch, and always try and hammer towards yourself, you will have more control that way.

Easy peezy, few taps and your done.

The gas block that is included comes "installed" on the barrel held in place by two set screws. Loosen those and pull the block off, put barrel nut on, tighten barrel nut in desired sequence and then go after the gas system. Darrens / SGW write up here in this thread is all ya need to follow from there.I think I might grab one of these just to have as a spare since they are a one off run. When gas blocks come with barrels do they not usually come pinned? Asking as someone who has never had to install a GB, yet.
Oh ya I feel stupid now. Gotta get the barrel nut past the GB. That all makes sense. Only time I installed an AR type barrel was a MRA renegade which didn’t use a gas block. The gas block that is included comes "installed" on the barrel held in place by two set screws. Your welcome Taylor, thanks for the kudosWith deep regret.. this was me!
However the outcome and short trip / visit I made up to Darren showed just how professional he and his crew run SGW. Without question this man went out of his was to teach me how to properly mount a pinned gas block. Ontop of that, was a man of his word and put HOURS of his personal time to modify a handguard that was suggested / chosen for my crypto build. Could have easily given my money back, however his curiosity of the platform, knowledge and patience paid off when he handed over the finished product.
To those reading this, the Aero Atlas S-One handguard will not fit the crypto without modification. However once on the upper, it one one fine A$$ handguard.
I appreciate you Darren. Thanks again for going above and beyond..
Sincerely,
Taylor, the handguard guy.
Start with standard Carbine buffer and increase from there if needed.I’m also curious why people want a mid length 18.6 vs a rifle length gas? What would be a good starting point in terms of buffer weight with these barrels?
Good stuff! I think I’ll grab one.Start with standard Carbine buffer and increase from there if needed.
We will have a few, if we can get them across the border on next shipmentDo you have more 5.56 BCG’s coming in anytime soon?
