.243win or 6.5cm for Deer?

The parent case to the 6.5 Creedmoor is the 30 Thompson Center or 30 TC.

The 30 TC was an interesting design that actually recoiled less than the 308 Winchester but hit a little harder on game.

It unfortunately didn’t catch on, the 308 Win. lives on and the 30 TC may become a distant memory.

Shoot what you can handle and be accurate with.

The hipster thing is absolutely ridiculous, actually never heard of this until a few days ago on this post……:)
See there is a Complete Fallacy that Some one - Some company dreamed up as there are near the same physical size and powder capacity with the 308 win ACTUALLY still holds ( 2 grs ) more powder . !
But the 30 TC is a Great cartridge and would work even better in a short action . RJ

10+ years ago 6.5cm was "the cool new kid", and it gained a reputation of being popular with people who are always on the cutting edge of what's "cool" - hipsters for lack of a better term. Manbuns are common among hipster dudes, and conservatives tend to loathe hipsters so calling people a hipster is a funny insult to some.

Today a real hipster wouldn't touch 6.5cm with a 10 foot pole, way too mainstream. The fact this joke is tired and long since fallen into irrelevance clearly doesn't matter to the people who keep saying it though.
Yea I have heard all that BS before I just like to call the man bun caller out and as usual he wimped out ! lol RJ

Jim the 30 TC is an actual short action caliber, as is the 6.5 Creedmoor. I'm certain you already know this.

I would have went with the 30 TC just because it sort of pulled my hair back! And with no man-bun LOL......:)

Being 25 years in law enforcement I still wear a top gun flat-top, would be hard for my wife to grab me by the hair, hahahahaha!

Unfortunately the 30 TC was only available in the TC Icon and maybe something else. I would have bought a Browning A-Bolt or X-Bolt if they would have made a 30 TC, but they did not. I have a 308 Winchester in a Model Seven CDL. I bought it to have my gun smith re-barrel it to 260 Remington, just for nostalgia. But the little model seven is a tack driver, lightweight and a sweetheart to shoot and pack around. She stays as a 308 Win for now.

lol. I like the cartridge ! 😀 It’s a Great one but since there is NO GOOD BRASS. Available for it I passed on building a Rem M7 on it to match my Custom M7 6.5 CM and stayed with a 308 Win . 👍. RJ

Deer at 200 yards or less…what is the difference which legal deer caliber is used? The deer will not know the difference if it is 243, 270, 3006 or something else…providing the shooter does his/her part…everything else is academic discourse which caliber is better…imo.

Who can afford that hahaha
Lots of people lack the space, knowledge, and/or time to reload.

Depending what you make at work it's a better deal to put in an hour of OT and buy factory ammo than to spend that time reloading - or at least it was pre-covid, prices for factory have gone pretty nutty recently...

I think I saw 80$ for 20 nosler 6.5x55 at cabelas with 140grn pills. No thanks.

I'm sure 6.5 creed is much cheaper. Like half id guess.
Depends. With nosler bullets it's probably still really expensive. But there will be cheaper options available, things like federal blue box for around half that price.

Lol, I make a really good wage and I look at the price of factory hunting ammo and I laugh and just walk away. Not that reloading components are cheap right now but it’s still better than paying retail on factory ammo.

Have you actually run the numbers?

How many rounds do you make in an hour? How much would it cost to buy that same ammo? Subtract from that your component costs. Now how much are you actually saving by rolling your own?

I haven't run the numbers in a while, but last time I did it (which was pre-covid) was only ~$25 an hour I was saving when using cheap bullets. Of course this all depends on how particular you are, what kind of press you're using, what kind of scale you're using, etc etc.
