This is the first time for me ranting about a business online, but this has to be mentioned ….it borders the ridiculous. I called this store yesterday to ask if they could ship a flashlight that I wanted to order overnight by ups as I a was leaving for a business trip 2 days later. They said sure, leave a note when you order and call us back. So, I place the order, and my damn shipping address is the same as the billing address of my credit card. I call the next day, we figure out the details , and everything seems fine. I get a call about 30 minutes later asking me to either provide a PAL number with a date of birth to supposedly verify my identity with the RCMP, or pay them with EMT because it’s a first order with them….or they will just cancel the order ! …I ended up cancelling the order, I find ridiculous to ask that type of information to supposedly protect you against fraud for a 400$ order , given that the shipping address is the same as the credit card billing address . Compete jon sense , and trying to collect way more than required .

I've seen that as well, Can't remember the name of the place but they stated right on the payment section that Due to high fraud and high cost of the Item that they required a PAL before they would ship.

WHEN YOU STATE THE CONDITIONS UPFRONT, it’s fair deal and I personally wouldn’t order a flashlight from a business that asks for a PAL for this type of item. But that wasn’t the case, they just made up something on the go, when we were sorting out the shipping , after I insisted that the item be shipped by the next morning . Can’t stand people that see bad things behind every stone. .like I said, the damn shipping address is the same as the card billing address….it’s the best anti fraud you could use. Very frustrating dealing with a business like that , and will be my last for sure .

So many partially informed halfwits to deal with. Find a retailer that knows their sh1t and move on. However most LEO don't even know the law in regards to the Firearms Act so it is sadly understandable that so many people tend err on the side of caution or stup1dity.

Way too much fraud going on these days. I don’t blame a business for trying to protect themselves.

We’re currently inundated with frauds at work, there is no time to investigate a fraction of a fraction of them.

Basically, if you’re reporting a fraud to the Police, that isn’t in the millions, and with a high likelihood of identifying a suspect (in this country), Police aren’t doing anything about it.

In this digital landscape, it’s up to everyone to protect themselves.

If Tenda chose this route to decrease fraud - good for them.

If you don’t want to do business with Tenda because they want your PAL - good for you (no sarcasm intended).

Vote for your favorite store with every dollar you spend.

My card got scammed on a CGN sponsor website (most know what one). They’ve since corrected their vulnerability, supposedly. I still wont spend a penny, of the 10’s of thousands of dollars I spend a year on this hobby, at their store.

I spend lots of money at Tenda.

This, 100%.

It literally says exactly that in the comment on the order:

IT DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HANDING OVER A PAL NUMBER, WHEN I PLACED THE ORDER ….it was later the next day, when we were sorting out the express shipping .
Yes I understand that. There is no legal requirement to give them your PAL number, so its not going to be something they're upfront about or request with every transaction. Its a case-by-case basis, and in your case they found the likelihood of fraud to be too high.

Credit card fraud is a massive problem in recent years for these businesses. If they ship a flashlight out and then get a charge back on the credit card they eat that money. Clearly they have decided it is better to lose the odd sale than be on the hook for fraud.

The fact you're a new customer asking for next-day overnight delivery, which would mean the package is long gone by the time anyone does a chargeback only furthers the suspicion IMO.

A scammer might have a fraudulent PAL. Might have a false passport too. It is still a simple way for a gunshop to reduce the likelihood of fraud.
