Is that flashlight nonrestricted?
Lumen count is too high, its now a prohibited weapon

My card got scammed on a CGN sponsor website (most know what one). They’ve since corrected their vulnerability, supposedly. I still wont spend a penny, of the 10’s of thousands of dollars I spend a year on this hobby, at their store.
I got my card info stolen twice before connecting the dots on which store it was. Still don't trust them either

Oh well you proved him wrong!

Clearly the PAL assists these stores in reducing fraud, otherwise they wouldn't bother.

A lot of fraud these stores are dealing with are not firearms purchases, its other stuff they sell that don't require a PAL like expensive optics. Could someone with a stolen credit card also be in possession of a PAL? Sure. But something like 90% of Canadian adults have at least 1 credit card, whereas only a small fraction of those people have a PAL. Its something like 2.4M PALs vs 30 million credit cards (actually more than 30million, due to how many have multiple cards).

Yes I understand that. There is no legal requirement to give them your PAL number, so its not going to be something they're upfront about or request with every transaction. Its a case-by-case basis, and in your case they found the likelihood of fraud to be too high.

Credit card fraud is a massive problem in recent years for these businesses. If they ship a flashlight out and then get a charge back on the credit card they eat that money. Clearly they have decided it is better to lose the odd sale than be on the hook for fraud.

The fact you're a new customer asking for next-day overnight delivery, which would mean the package is long gone by the time anyone does a chargeback only furthers the suspicion IMO.

I wouldn’t give any private info that goes beyond what it’s needed to buy something….and that is for anything , and it’s a matter of principle ,period. But I grew up in the 70’s after all. This generation now, hands over emails, phones numbers , and addresses to random businesses just because they are asked to do so, by the little young sales chick behind the counter , or to receive pennies in discount. Wait until all that info is used for something else that wasn’t intended for. The way it’s going, groceries stores will eventually ask you to open an account to buy bread 🥖. As for the business in question , Tenda, it was clearly improvised, clearly amateur given the info they had, and shows no respect in general for customers given that I had multiple phone conversation with them. What I found arrogant also, was that during the phone call, when I was asked to hand over my pal info, and I asked them why ? They right away said , it was that, an EMT, or we cancel the order ! As they are doing me a favor for #### sake . Quite a silly and I don’t hold it back here…..silly to think that someone is trying to rip them off because I’ve asked for overnight shipping for a F….g flashlight of 400$. This is America, if it was possible to get it in an hour, I would have asked for it . Every major business that I know of, use the simple rule of comparing billing address vs shipping address .look at the attached receipt from the store who got my business instead, they look silly now with their improvised anti fraud measure for a flashlight .
Tell you what, Our government looks at all of us , gun owners, with suspicion and contempt…they think we are not responsible enough. The laws they implement, clearly indicate a total lack of trust for us, despite going thru the stringent licensing requirements and us being checked daily against a national database. And now , we have businesses that lives off our money, who are playing overnight fraud investigators ….and in this case, given I am posting with my CGN account, and given my history, they were clearly off the mark….
Anyway , I drove to Ottawa after my exchange with tenda , and bought what I needed , with respect and a big smile from an excellent business that now has a store in Ottawa , but is originally in Alberta .

Tenda as a business was not given access to Business Web Services by the Ontario CFO for the purpose of using PAL holders personal information as a transaction safeguard. Full stop.
This!....:)

I know I am not the only one thinking this thought. Who pays over $400.00 for a flashlight? Was it made of gold? Did it fire 22 LR ammunition in case of emergencies? LOL I guess I'm out of touch with flashlight costs, but really?.....:)

I agree with the OP that supplying your firearms license to buy a flashlight is bull-pucky. Tell them to, well you know!......:(

And just when I thought you were one of us, you prove me wrong by re-drinking the WOKE cool-aid!.....:(

The PAL helps them against fraud? Bull-sh1t!

Please do not resort back to your WOKE ideas Suther, I was just starting to like you.....:)

IF it doesn't help prevent fraud please explain why so many stores are using this exact method to prevent fraud? Stores are literally refusing to make sales. Not exactly a good way to stay in business unless it's actually helping your bottom line.

if you want to share more personal info than required go ahead, but don't try to make it look like it's normal
too many stores get compromised with cc data being stolen,

no fishing stores ask for your fishing lic #
no health stores ask for ohip #
no car parts stores ask for driving lic #

Blackpowderburner already stated why. The Canadian Firearms Program was not designed to assist any business in checking out customers for fraud purposes. I am certain if the CFP or CFC knew businesses were doing this, I'm sure they would advise these businesses to cease and desist.

And why would an individual who is buying a flashlight want to divulge this information!

Just because our current government is corrupt with a border-line communist regime, it doesn't mean we need to play into their corrupt hands.

I'm hoping you will not be the first in line when the government requires us to have the mark of the beast (666), on your hand or fore-head to buy gas or groceries. I'd like to think you are smarter than this.

We do not need more control, we do not need to show our ID and prove who we are every time we walk into a store. This is WOKE, this is Control, this is Division, this is Hatred! And yes I know the OP was buying a flashlight online, he wasn't in a store, but Holy Smokes Man! Tell Tenda to: Well you know!.....:(

After reading all the bad things about Tenda, I would never buy from them, I don't care how cheap an item is. Let Tenda go out of business, they will clue in real fast when people stop allowing them to abuse the information they collect.

Don't fall for the corrupt Governments bull-sh1t!.....:(
