With spring bear hunting season just around the bend here in Alberta. I was looking through my safe last night and trying to pick a rifle and caliber I wanted to use this season. For some people this is easy but for me like many other CGN'ers we have 6 different rifles and at least that many caliber to choose from. I narrowed it down to two rifles my Marlin 1895GS in 45/70 and my Browning A-Bolt in 300 Remington Ultra Mag. So my question to all you our there is what gun will you be carrying?

I usually take my Win. 70 338 mag for bear hunting. Not that I need something that powerful for blackies, but we usually hunt where grizzlies are found too. It's nice to have a bit more punch than needed just for peace of mind in case I run into a big mean bear.

WOW

There sure is enough gun being packed on this thread.

I usaully leave my A Bolt home and carry my BLR in 308. But I am in the market for a guide gun too, so I wil have to carry my newest gun!!!

C. Sharps 50/90(of course)Sharps or Marlin '95 Cowboy gun in 45/70.....530gr. flatpoint and 100grs. of 2fg swiss black powder in the 50/90......420gr. LFN Gc(M.T. Chambers) in the 45/70 at 1900fps.

I used to use a .308 Win. which is very adequate down east, we don't have any Grizzlies. Out west I would use a .300 Win. as a minimum. But the last two Blackies I shot I used a .338 Lupua Mag., got love a 250 gr. hollow point fire escape aint nothing walks around with one of those holes in it.

350WSM kittycat - if I get outta here to either Quebec or Manitoba for a spring black bear hunt. That rifle is still a virgin but hoping to change that this year.

And - what John Y Cannuck said about Ontario politicians.

dont know a Savage 99 in .300 savage and factory Federal 180 gr or a Mod 70 Win fwt in 300WSM with 180 nosler partition ???!!!

time will tell but for now not a sign for spring lol ... Bears are still in den ...
