In my quest to find something a little different that you will want to buy in a couple of months when I am finished "playing" with it...I bought a new Rem 700 CDL Boone & Crockett in 7mm-08. This model is different and will not be easy to acquire because it is a sporter style rifle with a wood laminate stock and a blued, fluted 24" barrel. I consider the wood laminate to be the most stable of the "wood" platforms...and the fluted barrel makes it a nice sporter weight. It has a "field crown with a muzzle diameter of 0.65 so it should be capable of decent repeat shot accuracy. Rifle is nicely balanced and has a cheek piece. Laminate wood pattern is very nice.
I did a 15 shot break-in yesterday and shot three groups today to make sure it started off with groups under 1 1/2" at 100M (if initial groups were larger than 1 1/2 MOA, I would return it for "warranty" --so I don't dare to start modification before I "prove" it).
Shot two 3 shot groups at 100M... one measured 0.93 and the next 0.66
C to C. Shot one five shot group that measured 1.0" C to C. (Each group used 0.5gr of powder difference).
I have now removed the pressure point under the barrel, reduced the trigger pull from about 5lbs to about 2lbs., and torqued the gaurd screws to 40 inch pounds. I will now shoot at least 10 groups to decide if glass bedding is required.

You must be mistaken, because everyone knows Remingtons don't shoot like that.
