In my quest to find something a little different that you will want to buy in a couple of months when I am finished "playing" with it...I bought a new Rem 700 CDL Boone & Crockett in 7mm-08. This model is different and will not be easy to acquire because it is a sporter style rifle with a wood laminate stock and a blued, fluted 24" barrel. I consider the wood laminate to be the most stable of the "wood" platforms...and the fluted barrel makes it a nice sporter weight. It has a "field crown with a muzzle diameter of 0.65 so it should be capable of decent repeat shot accuracy. Rifle is nicely balanced and has a cheek piece. Laminate wood pattern is very nice.
I did a 15 shot break-in yesterday and shot three groups today to make sure it started off with groups under 1 1/2" at 100M (if initial groups were larger than 1 1/2 MOA, I would return it for "warranty" --so I don't dare to start modification before I "prove" it).
Shot two 3 shot groups at 100M... one measured 0.93 and the next 0.66
C to C. Shot one five shot group that measured 1.0" C to C. (Each group used 0.5gr of powder difference).
I have now removed the pressure point under the barrel, reduced the trigger pull from about 5lbs to about 2lbs., and torqued the gaurd screws to 40 inch pounds. I will now shoot at least 10 groups to decide if glass bedding is required.

Why can't life be easy? First, I was unsuccessful in following the posting instructions which I blame on having dial-up...but couldbe related to the fact that I am just now mastering how to eject my 8 track! Thanks to MANBEAR
pics will up tomorrow.
I free floated the barrel and reduced the trigger pull weight and made up some loads to test. Temp was about +2C and wind was about 20Kms.
I took 5 shots to re-sight after removing the pressure block and then started shooting groups @ 100M.

First 3 shot group using 41.5 gr of H4350 made one hole measuring 0.21" C to C. Holy crap that was lucky!

Second group with one grain more (42.5) also made one hole and measured 0.28". Can't believe it!

First shot in the third group with 0.5 gr more (43.0) went 1" to the right of previous POI's. What the ---- ? Decided I'd better do a 5 shot group so put out another 4. Well, the next 4 moved back to where I expected the POI to be, but the group opened up to 1" (that's just the last 4 shots), with the bad one I shot first, the group measures 1.8" What the ----? I may have a bad piece of brass, but was so miffed, I forgot to seperate it...
Right now, the rifle is sitting on the bench waiting for the glass bedding to cure, so it won't get shot for a few days. Hope the action comes out of the stock!

Sorry for the dark pic ... the stock is a lighter shade in real life. Actually, I am going to give it a coat or two of Tru-oil to give it a richer finish.
Remington accuracy ... I have found most of them to shoot reasonably well once the barrel is floated and the action is bedded. The early results for this rifle make it look promising but it needs lots of shooting to prove itself.

JEC that is one great looking rifle! hope you enjoy it.Last new gun I bought was a mod 70 in 325 wsm and I am amazed at the accuracy, love the way it shoots and looks.Almost like having your first kid hey!
