Has anybody used RKS in Alberta for rebore

One more upvote for Ron and Gerald. Ron made the barrel for my rolling block, so now I have a very stylish single shot 30-30 with gain twist rifling. He also rebored a badly shot out 94 in 32-40 to 38-55. That gives me a 100-year-old rifle wth a brand new bore.

Next up will be a 94 carbine that left the factory as a 32-40 and now has a barrel with no rifling in it whatsoever and a finish like a cave. Zero reflectivity. Never seen one shot out so badly. She'll be happier when it's a 38-55 like her big sister. Gerald will do that work for me.

Do I need two 38-55 chambered 1894 Winchesters? Probably not. But it ain't about need, is it? :)
Make one a 375, just for variety? - dan

Chatted with Ron a few years back and if he's interested in the project it can move fast, dropped a Stainless 700 Rem in 30-06 off to him December 05 and it was ready in early February. It was a re-bore and I believe a 1/14 gain twist 24 inch barrel. It was under $400 cash. Anyways got it home and worked up some handloads, recoil was ferocious LOL and several anomalies came out. First the speeds were about 100 fps higher at less than max loads (no pressure signs at all) second, it was neat how the 225 grain Sierra, Accubond, and Partition all shot into a one inch group! One their own, each one of those loads (4046, Varget, CFE 223) grouped under an inch. I had the bore looked at by a local smith and he was impressed. Would I do it again? Absolutely, added a muzzle brake, Trigger Tech Trigger, Stockys stock and some bedding. Speed in the chronograph was CFE223 and 225 grain Accubond. I have dropped the speed to 2830 fps for recoil reduction and lets face it, that's plenty.

I MAY have met Ron about 30 years ago when I was shooting a lot of APRA stuff. Still have a Sportco model 44 in .308 (Smith SS barrel) with an adapter (so the barrel just threads on - if you know Sportco, you know...).

Very much the plan at the moment. A weird little part of me wants a '94 in 32-40 with a brand new thirty inch barrel, a button mag, and a very good aperture sight. I think I could get along with such a thing. :)
I've loaded for a few 32-40's for friends over the years. Can be a very accurate round. My 38-55 is a Savage 99. It's a good round too, though I think the 32-40 edges it in accuracy. It was the darling of the scheutzen crowd for a long time, for good reason. - dan

Wasn’t it Ron Smith who made a gain twist barrel out a chunk of rebar once? It was either a bet or dare or something, or maybe to prove a point. I’ve seen pictures but it was a long time ago.

Ok, educate me! I never heard of gain twist barrels, what are they, how do they work, what are the pros and cons?
Genuinely ignorant 😜

I had a custom with a gain twist in a wildcat 7mm chambering on an improved 300 win mag case.

That rifle shot lights out.

The theory behind the gain twist is that is slowly speed up the ROT in the barrel. I’m not sure on the in depth theory on it, but it definitely worked on all of the guns I saw and shot with the gain twist barrels.
