New Long Branch toy

OK...gotcha....it has the thing I used to have! I went and looked at my M17. How rare are they and did they only appear on the 1941's? Also, the hinged bands...are they proper for the LB rifles? I thought they were just found on No.1 Mk.3's. Of course, I also didn't know what a waisted sight protector was. TKS. Dave

The two items that brand an early 41 LB as truly exotic, hinged band and waisted sight protector. Sigh...everyone and their brother are looking for these rare items made from a special Canadian metal known as Unobtanium...

don't forget they ditched the hinged band and waisted protector very early in production if your rifle has the machined sight protector and the machined band it is probably original .

I'm sorry to say that those aren't mine. Those are the pics I've picked up here and there including from some members on here who I won't name. One person on this thread mentions that he has one marked LB. Those are pics of several different rifles. I'd love to find two of them, marked LB...(not likely):(

OK, I pulled the top wood off of the 2 groove '41 again and the barrel is stamped "41". It also looks like the "1" may have been lightly restruck with a "2" over top of it. The serial number is stamped on the barrel, and it matches the receiver number and doesn't appear to be renumbered. I'm guessing maybe it was an early receiver that didn't get finished until later in 41 with a 2 groove barrel? I have no idea why they may have tried to restrike the 41 though. If only these bloody things could talk.

One comment was made earlier that the fellow was hoping to get a Long Branch rifle; if you were referring to a standard No 4 Mk I*, it shouldn't be a problem. Lots are still floating around for sale. If you are referring to a '41 without the *, it will be difficult, but certainly not impossible. Be persistant, keep looking, and if I get a chance at it first, too bad for you :D.

Nice Mk1 foresight protector, but that is a British one, SM is Singer Manufacturing Ltd. and the 41 of course is the date.

By popular demand, I now bring you the pic of a Long Branch waisted sight protector, mounted on a member's 41 LB...don't I wish it was mine.
Note the C Broad Arrow and the LB mark. BTW, I just noticed the front sight base doesn't have the LB style male screw for adjusting the front sight...

I wonder how close this waisted front sight is to the No.1 Mk VI front sight?
Thinking about replacement parts, you know. hummmm

I have a LB marked hinged front band floating around the workbench out in the shop. I took it on a $5 trade (right Granite? ). I'd part with it, but I have a 41 LB coming in on the slow red river cart from the USA.

Yeah - usually I get a kiss too when I get f**cked

Remember the "future considerations"...:yingyang:

:bigHug:

Theres your big kiss, but I don't remember anything about future considerations. :p

Hey Limpetmine, welcome to CGNTZ! For anyone who doesn't know, Limpetmine has been compiling years, serial numbers and info about Long Branch rifles on Gunboards. It's the only similar thread I've seen and is quite big since it includes American Long Branch owners as well.

Long Branch

Cantom, and all you guyz, thanks for the invitation to join here. I've been lurking a little bit, with one or two posts. I'm travelling right now, and won't be able to do much posting for the next 2 weeks. I'd like to see if we could start a list of Long Branch numbers north of the border, too, and combine the lists. Some interesting trends are coming out.
As far as rocking horse poo, I know it DOES exist, for I have stepped in some upon occasion! And if a loose waisted sight does come up, please do call!!! lol
Here is a recap the serial number list I've got. I'll post it on a new when I can figure it out, and how to get into some of the other forum here.
As far as the numbering sequences went, I think they went like this
0L1 to 0L999 (Cantom has contributed proof, list not updated to reflect this)
0L1000 TO 0L9999 (WE HAVE PROOF OF THIS SEQUENCE)
1L1 TO 1L999 (WE HAVE PROOF OF TWO OF THESE, 2 AND 3 DIGIT)
1L1000 TO 1L9999 (COMMON)
2L0001 TO 2L9999 (COMMON)
3L0001 TO 3L9999, AND ON AND ON.

Help me to find a 1942 MK 1 (not *)
1941 0L244 (Cantom)
1941 Mk 1 0L19XX (THIS IS WHY WE NEED MORE NUMBERS AND LESS X'S)
1941 Mk 1 1L882 (PICTURES AVAILABLE:dancingbanana:)

1942 Mk1* 2L1037
1942 Mk1* 26L9463

1943 Mk1* 22L28XX
1943 Mk1* 50L0012
1943 Mk1*54L75XX

All noted below are Mk1*'s

1944 57L6082
1944 81L9956

1945 83L38XX
1945 90L80XX sniper (T)
1945 90L8122 (T)

1949 91L085X
1949 91L21XX

1950 91L6913
1950 96L0012
