Beretta 688

2 3/4 inch chambers seem odd when the Dt11 and 694 are both available with 3 inch. I would prefer 3 inch for hunting waterfowl as well.
Maybe is only 2 3/4 to prove it's was designed as a clay gun , don't know weird, especially with a laminate stock you'd think they would call it call I dual purpose.
But what do I know I'm not in marketing or engineering.

As I understand it, Beretta started putting 3 inch chambers on their target guns to accommodate shells that may be slightly over 2 3/4 inches. Maybe that's not an issue now or maybe they just forgot why they did it.
Thar makes sense with SAE and Metric or other countries tolerance might be different 🤔

The laminate stock does not bother me at all. It’s dense, should not crack and will refinish fine when the file and sandpaper come out for fitting. But it should make the price a lot less than grade 1 walnut.

Everyone I know has a story about how a kid with an 870 that beat a guy with an expensive shotgun and I've seen it myself too. The part that no one mentions is the eyesight and reflexes of the younger guy. The natural hand eye coordination that some folks have over others is evident when you look at athletes that excel in one sport are often above average in other sports too, we're not all the same and that's the long and short of it. Like most people, I'm no natural born athlete but I do have some nice guns and I enjoy using them, you could say that they are the fruits of my labor.
Mister falconflyer.

You know I respect you and the others on this thread for their opinions.

This gun looks like a cheap Italian whore. No other way to put it. I have hunted with enough Italian new Canadians who know how I feel.

Look at the marketing price point.

How does one sell a gun that looks like that off the shelf?

Is Beretta attempting to pull off a Jaguar type marketing scheme?

Anyways, let us see how this girl puts out.

Initially, the u-tube paid off yappers will crow about it's performance.

But a month or so afterwards, the Real Boys will give this gun a thorough examination.

That is when I will be watching.

Well the young guy with the 870 maybe has better reflexes but old age and treachery put to the test wins ,nothing like talking a youngster into his next miss,,,:)

So who is the go too guy for gun reviews, always looking for some new content and options, preferable some one in Canada or north American, nothing again UK reviewers.

Maybe I'm the only guy left using 2.75" shells for ducks but they're cheaper have less recoil less muzzle rise and less muzzle blast which allows me to easily shoot doubles and triples depending on what gun I'm using. The extra 1/8 oz of shot in the 3" shell doesn't make me a better shot
I just don't see how a 2.75" chamber is a disadvantage on a gun marketed for clays when most ranges don't allow 3" shells

My buddy and I are going to pick up his new 688 / 32in bbl tomorrow @ The Gun Dealer in McAdam NB. They ordered 12...received 6 so far...3-30 inch and 3-32 inch...sold em within a week ! Lots chomping at the bit for this one!
Should be very similar feeling to his DT 10 we're thinking.
Tomorrows fit, feel and handling of my buds new gun will dictate whether or not I'll be trading in my 223, & 6.5 PRC on my new 688 in a few weeks time !!

**Personal thing**...I Love the black on black and the laminate look. Always been a fan of laminate rifle stocks. My 625 with gr VI wood is soooo much prettier...but my thoughts aren't in the "pretty place" with this Beretta.
Fit and functionality are gonna be paramount...I'm afraid I'll have to shorten the stock a half inch for my barrel chest Like I've done with almost every other shotty I own (including my 625) !!

He gets to shoot it this coming Sunday at our clubs New Years Turkey shoot ! Anticipation is running high throughout or squad of Brown'etta owners LOL

I have a feeling it 's going to be a "DUD" at that price point just like the 690 series clubby comes to mind. Only my opinion not a fact time will tell I have been wrong before.

Let us look at the name Beretta and who actually own's the firm.
Beretta is under a conglomerate that might care more the for the balance sheet before the product.
Could we be looking at Beretta going the way of pre 1964 Winchester and Remington that followed shortly thereafter?
Jingoistic junk before quality?
Just wondering.
Beretta seems to have handled the world economy quite well over the years. They stated their marketing strategy is to only sell high end guns these days.
If this is their high end gun...there was nothing wrong with a BL-2 over and under at the duck pond and at the local gun club.

Perhaps someone will show up for skeet or sporting clays with one , but in the last few years, more and more local shooters are buying Browning O/U shotguns. I actually haven't seen a new Beretta in a few years.

I'm seeing new Beretta's around here but not like the amount of new Brownings.
So many of the Beretta's of late have had problems that they have lost a lot of ground in my opinion, the 692 problems hurt them then the Dt-11 trigger problems gave them another jolt. The 694 seems to have rectified the previous issues but but once people have switched brands their not likely to come back soon.
I had lots of Beretta's over the years and didn't have trouble with any of them, I liked everything about them including the balance, feel and ascetics but once I switched to Perazzi as my main target guns I doubt I'll ever switch to anything else.

I used Citori for many years, because they fit. I like my K20 three barrel set, but after shooting my F-3 for the past five years, I will likely never buy anything else. If I had to replace everything, I would have another F-3 Vantage, with extra sub gauge barrels. The F-3 balances and swings just perfect for me.

Interested in how it went.
I just got my 32" 688 last week but have not had chance to shoot it yet
This will hopefully replace my Beretta 690 Black as my clay gun. I have the b-fast weights on order

First observations
1. damn this thing is tight out of the box
2. she's got some heft. Almost to a full pound over my 690 (30") barrels
3. very different feel than my 690 but I like it and how it fits me
