Here’s three customs.

Top: $2350. Bought as a Rem700 stainless synthetic detachable mag in 280 Remington purchased for $600. Trigger tech 2 stage-$350. Bell and Carlson M40 stock-$500. IBI medium contour prefit in 6BR-$800 plus a go gauge to set headspace-$100. Hand tighten barrel against go gauge to set headspace and tighten nut with IBI wrench. Sightron 36x-$700.
Three at 100 standing off a Bog DeathGrip.

Middle: $1600. Savage BVSS originally 22-250-$800. IBI heavy prefit in 6BR-$800.
Bushnell 8-32x40AO $600.
Rounds 16-27 on a new barrel. 0.7 grains wide powder charge test from the bench. The rear bag wasn’t properly packed down and things wandered to the left.

Bottom: $3000. My first custom purchased as Silhouette rifle in 7-08 for $600. I installed the MDT chassis, Magpul butstock and grip-$1000. Gobalistic Gunsmithing did the MTU contour barrel, brake and opened up the bolt face and installed an M16 extractor, 300WSM. $1400. Bushnell tactical 4.5-30-$1200.
Five at 1000 from the bench.

Barrels weigh 3.5, 4 and 7 pounds. I don’t find balance significant. I tried a one pound weight at the back of the 7 pounder as a
bag rider but it turns out it was all in my head.
Bergara claims 1MOA accuracy. Your mailbox will provide a fraction of that.
The only stock adjustment I find necessary is length of pull when a chassis places your hand closer to your shoulder.
PrairieGunTraders has Howas for $700. MDT makes stocks for as little as $400 that will shoot the same as any of mine. Plus $900 for barrel and go gauge.
Welcome to the rabbit hole.
For now, just long distance shooting at home. Maybe matches down the road, possibly. Also would like the ability to shoot the odd coyote here at distance. As for budget, I don't want to spend a ton, that rifle is $3500, I'd like to stay somewhere near that but see what I can find.
