Bergara Premier Competition

Hey guys, I'm looking to get into long range and trying to decide on a rifle. I'm just wondering if anyone had experience with the Bergara Premier Competition. This is what I'm currently looking at. Chambered either in 6 Creed or 6 GT. Let me know what you guys think of this rifle. This will be my birthday gift!

Talk to Ken from accuracy development solutions… he would be able to give you some great advice. If you are going the bergara route I would wait until odell Engineering brings in the premier barreled actions. I had one of those MPA chassis’s on a V22 and hated it compared to the MDT ACC

I sent him message, Thanks! What did you hate about the chassis? I really know nothing about building a custom rifle, thats why the bergara appealed to me.

I could never quite get it to balance correctly. Maybe "hate" was a strong word, but lots of people run them and love them. My first PRS rifle was a Ruger Precision in 6.5CM, which I bought from Ken when he worked at Bullseye in 2018. I learned a lot from it and still think it offers great value. You can also pick up a used one for under $2k, which allows you to spend the extra money on a really good scope that you can use on your custom rifle. Because if you get serious, you’ll eventually build one. Happy shopping

For now, just long distance shooting at home. Maybe matches down the road, possibly. Also would like the ability to shoot the odd coyote here at distance. As for budget, I don't want to spend a ton, that rifle is $3500, I'd like to stay somewhere near that but see what I can find.

Seems like the right one for you. Not sure if you could get an entry level MPA factory rifle under 4000 which uses Curtis custom action, would have more resale value.

From what I can see, Go Big Tactical, Insite Arms and BigHorn sales are the 3 dealers in Canada for MPA.
Or you could import yourself via irungun from MPA or any of its US dealer directly if the lead time takes much longer from local dealer.

Would you be reloading??? Factory ammo for those calibers might be harder to find.

I put together a custom, (bought all prefit) parts and put it together on the bench at home in a few minutes. Shoots awesome, and actually very little knowledge required, but helps with some basics. No barrel vise or action wrench required.

Putting it together yourself just has a special ring to it, but it will run $4500 plus for parts, depending on what you want.

Mine: cadex R7 action, IBI 26" heavy stainless fluted barrel, trigger tech diamond trigger, sitting in an XLR magnesium action. Best part of chassis is no bedding required, and it is quick and easy to remove for full cleaning.

There are dealers that have pre-made ready to go rifles, but you usually pay a bit more for them.

Another option is to go the used market, as there are some always available for decent prices.
 
I think the bergara would serve you well for a first rifle. There are other options out there that would do well also and save you a bit of coin, but the bergara premier action is a very nice action, and paired with a triggertech and MPA chassis would be a very nice combo. I previously had a bergara HMR pro and I probably wouldn't have made my jump to custom rifles so quickly if it was a lefty. It was one of my finest shooting rifles to date. The action felt about the same as my zermatt origin action also.

You could probably get one of the MPA rifles from gobigtactical, but that would likely run you another $1000. The BA comp chassis is a bit dated on features, and I think the MPA PMR rifles come with upgraded chassis, plus better actions (barrels are probably comparable). Or you could see what's in the EE here on CGN.

You also didn't mention if you reload or not. You'll likely need to reload to shoot 6GT, I'm not sure how easy it will be to find ammo readily available in Canada. 6 creed is more available but is also a barrel burner. Just some things to consider if you don't plan on competing with this rifle. Will take you a bit longer to burn out the barrel if you don't compete, but still something to consider.

LR or ELR?
Bergaras are nice, not exactly entry-level, so good on you for shooting high end stuff

I do reload, mostly pistol now. I haven't loaded rifle in a while. I would need to get mostly a new setup for rifle. I think the 6 CM is the best option for now, I can shoot factory until I'm ready to load. And if I burn out the barrel, I can look at replacing with GT or another CM at the time I suppose.

Cheapest factory ammo will be 6.5 CM. Just sayin! Plus it will be easier to find.

Once reloading, it won't matter as they will be similar, but look into the brass availability before making the final decision on caliber. Just had a quick look and the brass is almost the same in Alpha or Peterson small rifle primer pockets, so that is a mute point as well.

Why the SRP? Way more reliable supply right now and still easier to find than the LRP.

Thanks, I'd go with the 6.5 but our municipality has a 6mm restriction. I went with the 6mm creedmoor!
