Update. The .30-06 is good enough as a short range deer rifle.

Well Pharaoh, it's not so much you post that get's me fired up, but the stupid replies that you've gotten. Come on people, you watch CBC lately? No, us Canadians are not given to the glitter and showmanship of our southerly cousins. I'm not going to get into a lenghty retorical with you Pharaoh, as I don't entirely disagree. But given what my choices are as far as hunting programs are concerned, CITR is Canadian content, and Thomas is a good promoter for our Canadian sporting community, even given the fact that he may have bull####ed his way around certain facts. I'd rather see Thomas and his crew come out hunting in AB then some f'n bozo from Savage Arms who doesn't think highly enough about us to renew the export permit paper work, yet I gotta watch him hunt a bear off the road somewhere in BC. Now, that gets my hackles up.

Well, that was an interesting discussion now wasn't it.Yes the '06 statement was retarded, but I doubt if thomas pigeon writes for the show also.Unfortunatly this show(which I enjoy watching with my 17year old son) isn't any different from anything else done in Canada it always done half assed , and never involves the user groups it represents or caters to.Fishing shows make just as rediculous statements ,and always will.Maybe we should write the show and explain to them that lots of non-magnum guns (like my old 30-30) have taken plenty of moose, deer etc.Maybe they don't give a crap, at least your not watching another episode of "flip this chicken-sh@#$ed together shack".

All the fishing shows pump product that cost money and are almost as good as a plain jig and minnow. I guess I watch them all for the scenery, same as hunting shows, it sucks that global carries a content warning for them.

Did anyone contact the show about that statement? Maybe we should give them the benifit of the doubt.

I've truly gotten over the hype of getting "WildTV" for free. No, I'm won't be a subscriber. I've seen enough guys loosing it, high fiving each other, acting like morons after shooting a mulie doe. My buds and I hunt and pack a still camera to capture the moment, not so's we can become movie stars. Somebody else said something along these lines "keep your paws off of me and get a knife, we got work to do" - I coulnd't agree more.

Wild TV = Hodad infomercials.... At least Thomas promotes hunting in his own country, and is a bit more cerebral than the wild TV crowd. Lets face it, there's a lot of filler time on these shows - lots of opportunity to put your foot in your mouth.
And hey, these shows must be getting to their intended market. Several newbies from the "big smoke" have shown up at our deer camp, equipped with all the lastest gimmickry from Bass Pro, and a rifle that can shoot to the next county. They have no history of hunting, just decided to get into it from exposure to the TV! We have a lot of fun with them. Sometimes they even manage to harvest something, they are surprised about all the blood and guts - you dont see that on TV. Most never come back...

Pidgeon, pronounced "Peejonne", don't be confused with the spelling. The man is a Canadian hunter turned 'actor' cause it paid more, It gave him endorsements like Tikka, Bass-Pro and the like that comes with being a meager celeberty in Canada. "Mr. Pigeon" can you say this about the 30-06? Cause if not its back to the streets for you and good luck trying to get your old job back at the Honda factory or whatever Auto factory that'll soon close it's doors for good. Personally I don't overly admire the guy, but he has a Canadian hunting show, if your a better man start your own. I enjoy watching his prairie hunts simply because its my back yard. I like the cooking bit as well with Chef Olson. Yeah he said some crap about the 30-06, so would you with a BIG fat cheque and a brand rifle, scope hunting boots Dodge truck trips to hunting outfitters............Take him for what he's worth and carry on.
I know if I could change my current job and do what I love for a living with all the "cool" gear..Hello!!!! Thomas Pigeon...hes an actor that hunts for Canadian tv.

.30-06 Eh... is good enough for me..

Hello to you all,
I'm a rookie hunter and loving it :dancingbanana:. My first time was with a Tikka .30-06 T3 Lite Synthetic. Since I've shot a few more rifles however I still come back to this shot. Might anyone be looking to sell off their Tikka .30-06 T3 Lite Synthetic.

I for one envy the guy.... He somehow got Global, the CRTC, and us taxpayers to pay for him to go hunting in all these remote locations !!!

What kind of a sweet gig is that !!!!!!!

Man I wish I had thought about that...:bangHead:

I like Wild TV. Yeah, the programs are no different than the stuff you find in a hunting mag: lots of ads, "perfect" hunts, and selling of the latest and greatest ad infinitum ad nauseam. But it beats watching Friends reruns and admittedly does sort of stimulate towards the next hunt. I haven't seen Thomas Pigeon yet though.

Went to the Toronto Sportmans show yesterday, not what it use to be the Hunting Hall is joke, very few vendors to sell or display hunting items. Met Thomas there and asked about calibers and he pushed the 300 WSM and of course Tikka or Sako. Didn't mind the sales pitch, those people pay his salary but what got me just talking to him, very very arogant.
I really don't mind his show, better that than nothing.

Well personally i don't care for the show a lot but it's still a free country last time I checked, and I can always change channels if I want to. It's kind of nice to see a Canadian outdoors show making a go of it.

But chances are that it won't last long. This is still Canada after all. I'm sure you've all heard the "Crabs in a bucket" story.

Most decent hunting magazines that get started here fail in 2-3 years because the market won't support them. Canadians won't tolerate someone making a go of it, especially if its another Canadian. Far better to boycott / whine about whats wrong and inciting others to do the same. Sad but true - it's the Canadian way.

WHAT ever happened to "live and let live" and "If you can't say something nice - don't say nothing at all"?

I don't know Thomas, never met the man or watched his show. However, what I find interesting is that right or wrong, where we have a deep interest (in this case hunting) we review all the talking heads with a critical eye.

I would like the general population to review the talking heads on tv telling us what to think about this policy or that with the same critical eye.

Glad no one told the elk & moose I've shot with my 30:06. 2 out of the last 3 moose were 300+ yds and my last elk was a tad under 300. Whew...guess I'd betternot hunt with it now. So, what happened? Did they start making the moose & elk out of tougher material?

I can totally see Thomas being the arrogant type. For someone like Jim Shockey I don't though. I'd listen listen to Shockey's T/C or ARGO sales pitch any day:)

Yeah, I've always liked Jim Shockey's stuff. You have to wonder if his program wouldn't fit better into mainstream television. It's just wacky enough that even my wife and non-hunting friends can still watch with me. I bought his hunting bloopers DVD that had hs Dad and Father-In-law in it. I couldn't help but giggle like a school girl. :D

I get a kick out of the rabid caliber discussions always going on.

What they have in common is that they throw a 150+grain bullet over 2000fps into where you point them. That's good enough.

What I like about a .30-06 is that you can walk into any backwoods shop that has a few dusty boxes of ammo on the shelf and find it there. And you can buy cheap practice ammo to be confident about putting that shot where it counts.

It all makes sense now. When I was sighting in my new 30.06 at the range the other day, I wasn't missing the target - the bullet just wasn't making a hole! Maybe the bullet will get through the paper at 25yd.
