Picture of the day

I’ve never encountered a centreline fuel tank in the 4 years I was associated with the 104 and the role at that time was long distance bombing.
Reddit has a link with a vid of the bomb ‘toss’ by a 104 but wont let me post here for some reason. I didnt realize how steep a climb they were in when the bomb was released.

Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade
That picture was at one time on display in the Imperial War Museum in Ottawa. I haven't been there for a few decades, so it may have been taken down to display one of the thousands of pics and portraits they have in storage.

The machine gun in the pic looks like one of the Colt produced Hotchkiss "potato digger" types. Good machine gun, quite reliable when used for such applications as mounting in vehicles. Horrible in dirty field conditions, for obvious reasons.

It was very portable though and was used extensively, until "better" models were available.

When I was just a toddler, I lived in a little company town, Copper Mountain, BC. which is now an open pit mine, there was an enterprising fellow who bought a crate filled with "captured" German helmets. They were in used but in very good condition, painted and decal laden, complete with harness, etc.

He would take a sledge hammer or shoot through them with his surplus Lee Enfield, then take them to trade shows in Vancouver and sell them as "vet bring back" souvenirs. I remember that he never managed to sell many and when he quit the mine, he left them behind in the shed they were kept in.

Walt Disney did the same thing but I think with WWI helmets and sold them as "sniper shot" helmets.

So your little "expedition" in search of lebensraum hasn't worked out as planned, and it's time to head back home. But Ivan has trains, and is hot on your heels. You don't want him getting to Berlin before you do. What's an enterprising young German rail engineer to do?

Thank Gott for the Schwellenpflug:

Drag that sucker a couple hundred miles and Ivan's gonna need a lot more ties.

Is that why my post was deleted? Cuz it wasn't liked? Or because it was true?

How can a comment like "Ha ha, you schwein. Hope you got a bicycle!" stay... and a comment like "reminds me of the turd destroying Canada before he gets booted?" gets deleted.

Beats the hell out of me. I'm not a moderator, despite what it says under my name. If I had to guess, it's because it was so far off the topic that the actual mod saw fit to delete it. I'm reasonably certain it isn't because someone's trying to crush you under their heel or thinks you smell bad.

You'll note my concern was derailing a long-running thread with the usual Fvck Trudeau stuff that's in every other fvcking thread on this site. I don't like the rotten little bugger either, but I think everyone here is pretty familiar with that feeling, and stating it again and again and again and again and agaiin and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again gets pretty tiresome.

We can add to the threads that others have started, or we can start our own. We have options here. There's no need to wade into other people's garden parties and sh!t in the firepit.

Here's one we don't see that often.

Turns out there IS a substitute. Two made, both lost. Not all of Ferdinand's designs were winners. But at least changing a bum road wheel wouldn't involve removing six or eight others just to get to it...
