I'm thinking of doing a late season Elk outing this week in AB (got a tag). Going out with my oldest.
While the tag is in my name, and I'll need to do the hunting, I wanted him to take along a just-in-case rifle that won't be overtly good for elk (in case we get a-talkin' to a conservation officer), but that would be OK to plink or for use if we run into uninvited diners.
I had originally planned to buy a PCC in 10mm or 45, but it turns out these are dangerous devices desperately needed in Ukraine (ya can't make this #### up).
The choices I'm looking now at are a Henry Homesteader in 9mm (soon to be banned, I'm sure) or a lever (I'm thinking a Henry as well) in 357 or 44mag or what else?
Of course, I could let my son take either my 6.5swede or "his" 243, but I really wanted not-a-bolt-gun, and preferably not one in a rifle chambering.
What do you suggest?
