I just bought a XPR with the wood as well. I’ve never owned a “modern” wood stock. I’m used to the 1970s varnish finish. Do you oil your stock at all?I have the sporter model (wood stock) in 6.5 Creedmoor and it's very accurate
The only downside I see is that you have to remove the mag in order to top it up unlike the model 70 where you can just pop a few in from the top.
But I think they are a good value for your money.

Took a bull moose with it this year. She dropped on the spot. Very nice rifles for the price, only thing I would have liked was controlled feed, but on a budget hunting rifle you can't expect everything.
