I have a Savage Little Rascal, and it is a neat little rifle. It is fun to shoot and accurate, and there really isn't anything wrong with it. But, I was thinking, what if Savage could make it even smaller, I can't legally cut the barrel, but the factory can. Here is a picture of what it could possibly look like, if it was made.

This could be a great backpacking, hiking, survival or just a fun range gun. Really light and compact. The storage compartment in the stock is great for keeping small survival items inside.

So I was thinking if we bug Savage enough maybe they could make it, maybe they could even bring one sample to the next TACCOM 2025 to see people's reaction to it.

Does anybody know who to contact at Savage with this idea?

What are your thoughts?

I did something similar but it was with a Mossberg plinkster youth.

It has a 10" barrel, I turned from a green mountain blank, it is 26.5" over all length, 12.5" lop, semi auto 7 shots in the the mag. But the best part was I lightened it so it was less than 2 pounds (1 pound 15oz) loaded with 7 rounds

You can buy green mountain 22 blanks for $80 in Canada. (Nine35.ca) So it wouldn't be an expensive project to try.

I did some measuring, and the length would be 21-3/4" with a barrel length of 7". The regular rifle weighs in at 2.71 lbs (1.23 kg). I don't know how much less it would weigh with 9 inches of barrel gone, but I'll guess probably around a pound.

you think 1" of barrel weighs 1.75oz?

You made your own 10" barrel at home ?

No you just can't cut an existing barrel shorter than 18". If you start with a blank you can make it any legal length you want. And in this case I need to keep the over all length of the rifle above 26"
This is why I would like a factory to do it. It won't cost me anything extra to make a new barrel and install the sights properly, also if it is done at the factory it can be less than 26 inches. All they would have to do differently is a shorter barrel, everything else stays the same.

I have one of these noricnos, they were around a few years ago not sure if they are still available. 5 shot removable mag, bolt action short barrel.

Been keeping an eye out for one of those for a while. Last one on the EE went for a good price I was just to chicken $hit to pull the trigger.
Mine needs some work. From new if you work the bolt to hard to will come completely out of the action. I did kill a few gophers and a badger with it. But it’s mostly lived its life in the back of my safe

Those norinco's JW15's seem to go for over $400 when theyre up and IMO are not worth it. Just buy a 13" Scorpio em332 for half the price.

A few are on GP right now though, even one NIB which is surprising. I spent about 3 months looking for one before I got a scorp.

They're small but they're not particularly light. I think they're close to if not over 5lb?

Scorpio has the same issue. Compact but like twice the weight of a rascal.
