Hunting ATV'S/E-bay

I'd be tempted to look into buying from these guys bringing in new machines from the US and selling them here. That seems a good middle ground.

I bought one of the 50cc ebay Giovani machines for my girls to play with. Considering that it starts, runs and had air in the tires I guess I got my moneys worth. About $400 delivered to my door, and never misses a beat. I'm considering getting a 250cc model for my boy to use for hunting with me. I'm under no illusion that they are equal to my own quad, but for the price they are better than walking.

Most dealers in the states are under orders not to sell direct to Canadians, as they don't want to undercut their Canadian dealers.

However, there are ways around it if the dealer wants to make a sale, they can transfer it thru a 3rd party to you, and you'll save thousands of $$.;)

I have been talking to two local dealerships, but their rudeness just floors me! I think I just might as well buy used, and get parts shipped in, than deal with these guys, I can see the round out that they gave me over prices, that dealing with them on a warranty would be some song and dance production

Driving to Florida via Syacuse I saw dealerships with sighns saying Canadian customers welcome. There was also adds on the Radio going through NY for Cars/Trucks,ATVs,And snow machines explaining that now is the time to take advantage of the high Canadian dollar.
My bet there are alot of people going this route.

I bought a used Arctic cat 500 stateside....great deal..and no problems bringing in a used machine thru customs. They were more interested in knowing if I had any full jerry cans on my trailer so they could charge me duty on gas. Buy a new machine, and customs requires you to get it checked out in Canada, lights brakes etc, to show its servicable before you can use it....at a fee of 200.00.

Go to Craigslist...items for sale...go to motorcycles and type in ATV into the search engine...lots of great deals.
I saved over 2000.00, and got a plow and ramp thrown in..

I bought a 08 Grizzly 700 with P/S from a guy that's bringing them across as a side business. He had done 61 as off the 1st of Dec. The price diff between US & Cdn on higher end ATVs is between $3-4,000. For the most part you can pretty much split $$ that between the guy doing the paper work hoops & transportation with yourself!

Finding all the details on doing it with a new machine is so exasperating I just quit & bought from above guy!

Duty on Jap made atv is 6%.

Do a search in the trader.ca you will find these importers from the US. Their prices are $3-5K less than the locals.

Many are willing to delivery to your door.

You can save a couple of thousands or even more on a big bike. I almost bought a Suzuki King Quad 700 from an eBay dealer a year ago. I was going to go, pay cash and pick it up but in the last moment I got a good deal and bought a Honda Rincon locally. I'm very happy with my bike but could have saved $$$ by getting one from the US.

Then there is the matter of service at your local dealer. He will provide it to you but HE WILL TAKE CARE of his customers first - hey its their livelyhood Just like buying a new vehicle out of town and then expect your local dealer to go to BAT for you - dont think so. Prices make a difference but sometimes the long term pic doesnt. If its exteme $$$ difference yes shop around, see if your local dealers can come close.

ITS always your call as you are the one spending the $$$$$

IMO, in some cases the price difference is so big that it's well worth not having warranty on a US bike. A well cared ATV (brand name...) will go for years without any trouble. Even if something breaks, the repair cost would not be as high as the price difference between Canadian and US bikes.

I know the Artic Cat dealers go to states to buy Atv's and resell here as I bought a used 2006 700 and a state trooper previously owned it , it only had 13 miles on it.

Yes found that out , I used to work for a local dealer, they prioritized those who purchase from them.

What breaks on an ATV? Mine is a 15 year old Honda fourtrax 300. Oil changes, spark plugs, and the occasional break pads. I need a dealer and warranty for that?

Those days are over though, today's machines aren't bulletproof like teh old 300's.

And as for the dealer going to bat for you, some dealers are asses anyway. I will order over teh internet before I will give my local dealer a penny.

Its not like the warranty is a long time anyway, usually 1-2 years depending on make. They won't cover any wear and tear, which is the most damage done.

I may be a skeptic, but it sounds like a good cover story to me.

There are untold numbers of "used" ATV's being sold on our side of the border from US "dealers". They can't sell new, or they'd get slapped from the manufacturers, so they run a few miles on them and call them used.

Think about it... why would anyone put 13 miles on a machine and then sell it.

But, then again, no doubt there are some legit used machines coming up this way, so I'll take my pessimism and be quiet now. ;)
