Current quality issues with the Rim-X action - Bolt Gouging.

Those pictures show galling on the old bolt, it just isn't as bad because of the harder material. There looks to be lots of sharp edges on that thing which is a big no-no for sliding parts, on a brand new (old style or new style) bolt can you use the un-galled edge to "shave" a slice off the end of your fingernail? Industry standard is to "break sharp 0.1mm" and this should be done before surface treatment.

Look closer and the wear is on a fraction of the available surface area of the lug. Hardness is more galling resistant, yes, but when you don't have the load spread out on the appropriate surface area galling will still happen. Logic. The lugs are small but if the machining is such that only an edge makes contact, well, there you go.

Vudoo has never made bare actions available to Joe Customer. They've always sold them as barreled actions.
Vudoo actions are available and have been for some time! GBT has had them for quite some time and still show stock.

When I ordered my last Vudoo BA I inquired about actions only and I was told there are no more coming to Canada. At that time there was one left hand left in Canada with GBT. With respect to Longstud I'm just reporting what I was told.

There certainly is a vast difference in the lug design between the Vudoo 360 and the RimX. My 360 lugs are perfect at 96K rounds. That action did have cocking ramp wear that wore into the cocking notch and led to decocking problem that was nicely solved by reforming the notch. I think that issue was user error ... to little lubrication.

It’s a shame that these issues are starting to pop up with Rim-X actions. I’ve been recommending these for the last couple years to shooters who are looking to take the next step. Mine has been flawless and has helped me win some hardware if I do my part.

Hopefully Zermatt does the right thing and makes a correction! In the mean time I’ll hold the recommendations until I hear other wise.

There is another REM 700 foot printed action that should be hitting the market soon from IBI (International Barrels) called the Duece 2.0. It’s a nice looking option!

Well I have the same problem only my bolt lugs are worse than in Kennys video ''150 rounds''. What is totally amazing is that RimX knew of this problem in July 2024 and as far as I can tell did not notify the distributers or retailers of this issue, to halt sales and shipments. Now both my bolt lugs and action have damage. I just took delivery of this action about 2 weeks ago. PISSED is a very mild word I Am using for this situation.

Any chance you can upload some pictures of your lugs? Curious to see how bad it is. And what damage occured to the actual action?

^wild the bolt head which is replaceable and the lug recesses in the receiver are junk. Sad and unacceptable on a 200$ gun never mind what you guys paid for a build

That is insane. I would contact zermatt. I emailed today about the rimx issues, and said the current actions being made don't have the issue. Doesn't sound like they are "recalling" the current ones out there. But they did say, they would ship new bolts to people with that issue. But I assume in your case it would have to be a whole new action.

How’s a new bolt head fix the lug recesss in the receiver? The whole thing should be replaced

That’s what Lakkenbak said at the bottom of his paragraph.

Have you reached out to Zermatt to see if they would be willing to exchange the complete action through one of the Canadian dealers? Curious if they’d be willing to help you out.

From my understanding no retailers have been contacted by Zermatt so far and doesn't sound like they will. (Emailed them this afternoon and got a reply within 5minutes)
I brought it up to a retailer yesterday since I am waiting on a rimx prefit from modacam, and they mentioned they haven't had any complaints yet, till this morning someone reached out with galling issues.

And I did warn 65gks on a different post to check for galling of the bolt and checking headspace.

Hi Everyone, yes I reached out to Ray at Zermatt, I will not comment at this time on it. Other than they have been working on this problem since July 2024 when it was brought to their attention by Kenny at Desert Precision. The really sad thing is Zermatt continued to sale this action to distributors and dealers without telling them of the issue.
Regards I am Going To Enjoy A Sip Of Cognac And Say Good Night George

Keep us posted on what Ray has to say. Would be nice to know their stance on the matter with actions that are this badly damaged from the bolt issue.

No update yet at this point, our clients who also have been in contact with Zermatt shared results on replacement bolts Zermatt has sent with promises of fixing this issue... see attached photos of a recent replacement bolt with 600 cycles a client shared today

We attended SHOT 2025 and saw Ray in person to discuss why our clients and non clients that have shared emails are being told only our shop is seeing this problem and it's how our shop manipulates the action as well as our 0.130" cartridge jam...

I purchased a brand new Rim-X and received it 3 days prior to attending shot from Altus Shooting. Unopened, unmolested and keeping an open mind, we had Ray open the box and show us how to manipulate the action... surprise, it gouged within 10 cycles.

I know many others are seeing this issue as I am. Regardless if you like my shop or not, this puts accountability on everyone who is dealing with this action and the product they produce. I wish more shops can put aside ego's and fear of loss profit to come together. Soon as we get a confirmed fix, we will let folks know. At this point I personally have to question and evaluate all aspects on this action and weather or not recommend this action for future clients. Changes to this action have been done multiple times in the past without vendor/dealer notice. What say the future another negative change may occur?

I hope all of you get taken care of properly. A fair chunk of change for that kind of disappointment. I toyed with the idea of trying one of these but decided on another Vudoo! You would think these guns would be function tested before leaving the manufacturing facility. Especially when using a new material

Regret getting a rimx prefit from modacam now instead of a vudoo. Ray mentioned the fixed bolt in an email to me, but looks like a pretty bad fix, if you can even call it a fix. Guess it won't get an action till there is a proper fix out there. (Or till someone that plans on designing his own action uses the same thread pattern and headspacing)

Seems like new bolts have started shipping out.
