March 4th Tariffs and Commerce Department Freeze

New round of tariffs, so, new thread. This thread is only for information pertaining to firearms and realted products and how these issues will affect availbilty and prices. While political disscussion is important, it will not be in this thread. Such posts will be deleted.

We have spent the last few weeks filling our warehouse with as much product as possible , especially those products likely to be affected by the 25% tariffs. We also have significant loads coming now from Weatherby, Berger (Capstone), Vista, Big Horn Armories, Marlin as well as other smaller mixed loads. Our warehouse is really full and we have all these loads to fit in somehow.

To make this even more frustrating, the Commerce department has frozen all new permit applications, meaning any permits we have exhausted, we cananot currently get new ones to get product coming pre tariff.

This will affect all dealers, even those who buy indirectly, of course. Speaking with our broker, the expectation is that USA made products will have a 25% tariff on or shortly after March 4th. They do not expect it to affect products coming from the USA but made elsewhere.

Not sure this is about not buying US, but what will be affected by future tariffs / taxes / duties.

I’ve always just bought the best product for my money. I’ll just keep doing that. I don’t buy just because “Canada” or “Murica”. Garbage product can come from anywhere.

Regardless, not looking forward to the increases.

What’s the expectation for pricing from other companies like say zeiss, or vhitavuori? Are they going to keep their prices the same? Or jack them up as well because alot of their competitors products in the states are now overpriced and there’s less competition?

I think in the short term, prices will remain the same. However, if the tariffs become long term, the increased demand for non USA products could see some price increases.

It's a business decision for them. I'm more worried about a weaker canadian dollar causing price hikes.

I don't see less competition in the States. Tarifs will slow down their economy while boosting inflation. Trump is also bad for guns sale as there's no fear of missing out with a ban.

I bought some 85.5 bergers from you a few months back and they were $66.99/100, today they’re $73.99… I guess there’s two ways of looking at tariffs, it’s not such a bad deal if you have a warehouse full of American made goods that you can pass a 25% surcharge onto you’re already purchased stuff giving yourself 25% more profit on the backs of the people who are already getting gouged.

I buy fairly regularly from you guys and I find this disgusting. You’re no better than the scummy politicians causing the problems.

The increase in the price of bullets you saw was the decline in the Canadian Dollar vs the US since the last time they got that Berger Bullet in stock( inflation is in that mix as well). I buy all my reloading components there and see those little fluxes all the time on US based product. If it had a 25 % Tariff on it you would have paid over $ 83 for it.

The increase in the price of bullets you saw was the decline in the Canadian Dollar vs the US since the last time they got that Berger Bullet in stock( inflation is in that mix as well). I buy all my reloading components there and see those little fluxes all the time on US based product. If it had a 25 % Tariff on it you would have paid over $ 83 for it.

I can still buy the same box for $599.00 elsewhere.

That's because that was what the price of the product was the last time that store got those bullets in. You will see the same at Prophet River with US based ammo. You can often find some product vastly cheaper ( especially slower moving bullets, ammo etc ) cheaper than other stores , why ? because the Can Dollar was better than the US at the time , so the price is lower. I live locally so I stop in there often . I also compare prices with other stores online and see this all across the country. These fluxuations have always been there. Not Tariff related. Yet !
