Sorry if I am detracting from what is currently being discussed... But I am kinda new to this and only tried shooting 22 LR with iron sights at 100yrds the other day... And found it to be fun and challenging at the same time...

Are there any competition discipline for this? If so, is there anywhere I can find out more?
Again my apologies if I am asking something that has been asked a million times before!

Iron as in peep/apetures or typical leaf sight found on most rifles? Peep and apetures there are. As for traditional Irons. Not that I know of. I was going to post a challenge more suited for less experience shooters, but there are a few that says it takes away from theirs. Nobody would be offended by an iron sight only challenge?

Might scan and post up the 100 yard target I use for Irons. It's about a 8inch bull.

Irons displine is more points system vs group size. Though doesn't mean cannot be adapted for group.

I would be interested in an iron sight 100 yard challenge , I'm sure there are others as well, as long as slings are included and not bench rests.

Tks for the insights!

I was using a CZ 457 Jaguar which comes with a ladder sight... so I guess it qualifies as a leaf sight?

As always, any pointer or additonal info for such challenges are much appreciated!

Find a target that works for you. Iron sight the 100 yard challenge target might be difficult to use with irons.

This was shot at 100 yards with Irons. Rather than group size.. we score it like 100-2x

I know most of my iron sight targets are about a 8inch circle. 50 yard Is smaller, I'll measure them later.
These are the 2 I use. The smaller is about 5inch. The NRA ones are 6inch with 4inch black.

The doubles it's 5 shots each target. And the 5 targets it 2 shot per.

I think why challenge is measured group size. Then don't need to worry about did it cut the line. So for practical sake group size is the norm for online.

Grab some trail marker tape and make some wind flags. Wind will effect 22LR and gust can go from 9 ring to 7. As for ammo, use what you feel is best. If you are experiencing a huge spread that erratic, try another ammo.

Glare is not your friend when shooting irons.

Now do you shoot shoot with a 6 o clock hold. Like bottom of your target. Or basically tip on target?

Nice target. What rifle were you shooting?

Amazing group shooting with iron!!
Thanks. You'll hear this alot. Ammo and wind does play huge part. You'll get good days and bad days. I mainly shoot 92-98 @ 100. I've yet to do a spring/summer avg. As when I was shooting F class apetures, it was winter early spring so the cold effects the ammo, as well your fingers.

Reading the wind is a good practice as you miss a 5 kph gust increase and you might see a 9 or 8 ring. Living next to the ocean, there isn't a day without wind.

But I think I'm gonna focus more on Irons this year.

It is not important whether you win or lose but how much your win by!

If it is not important whether you win or lose why are we keeping score!

Winning or losing is not a matter of life or death . . it is much more important than that!
