This actually brings up something I've been wondering about. The Firearms Act prohibits issuing a registration certificate for a handgun to an individual.

12.2 A registration certificate for a handgun must not be issued to an individual.

Would that mean OP would need to incorporate so they issue the certificate to the business or something? I can't imagine OP is exempt from having a Reg. Cert?

No, the exception is written into the act further. The certificate gets issued as before. I'm sorry I went into the weeds a little as I'm more interested in subject related to importing and I find the current limitations on importing restricted handguns are unfair to the exempted individuals.

Exception — handguns

97.1 Sections 12.2 and 19.1 do not apply in respect of an individual who

  • (a) holds an authorization to carry in respect of a handgun; or

To clarify and hopefully help others, here is the way to do it. you need a ATC to buy and hand gun but you need a hand gun to get a ATC only way around this is if a friend has a hand gun gives you a letter saying he or she is leading you the hand gun for this time period to use on your trap line then you will receive a ATC and with that ATC you can purchase your own hand gun hope this helps out someone

In Ontario you can apply for a wilderness carry permit. Having a trapline you will probly qualify for a permit.

PM me and i can send you the contact info so you can get the info right from the horses mouth.

Its actually never been easier to get permit in Ontario.

Spoke with Philippe Allard all is set for permit agreed its not that hard to get
 
Come to Toronto or any other liberal stronghold. 1000s of handguns to be had and bought. Drum mags, auto switches pre installed. Most even come with serial numbers scratched off so you don't have to worry about registering them either.
Venture out into any of the hoods and you'll find one or many in no time.
