March Purchases

That is one sweet A4 Hardballer. The M1 appears to be a pretty nice rig as well. Can you tell me, does your A4 have a solid checkered butt plate or a checkered butt plate with a "trapdoor"?

Yes, I have the M73 Lyman "Alaskan" 2.5x. But the reticle is a crosshair with a small target dot in the center. Do you have a solid checkered butt plate on the back of your A4?

I am in the Trenton area, but would like to get a look at the EOHC range & facilities. When the weather gets alittle nicer we should get together for a shoot.

The reason I ask is that I have never noticed the solid butt plate on any of the other Springfields I own or have fondled. I have only seen a couple of A4's in my life & could not recall if that is what they had or not.

Mine has the same finish gap. After the war they rebuilt these using available NOS parts in inventory to speed things up and bring them back out. Some parts were parked, others left alone like the bands, buttplate and nose caps. They were then put back into boxes and waited deployment to Korea and Vietnam (until replaced by Win M70 and Rem 700s.) My barrel is a 1944 4 groove "unfired". The milled trigger housing and floorplate were often swapped on the field by snipers (perceived as more stable) and left on during the rebuild. hb

Beautiful piece ...

Thanks for posting pics .... :)

Well some may have heard of my other rants on other threads about P.O.S. snowblower I bought from CT. Lost all confidence in it & took it back, but there are no other blowers to be had around here. So this my new (used) snow shovel.:)

Hey Badger Dog, Did most of the pieces from Bruce Stern's collection go for top dollar? Did you happen to see what the 1903 Peterson device went for?
I am still waiting to see if they post auction results online.
That is one auction I wish I could have went to!

ULTRA RARE US MODEL 1918 - MARK 1 PEDERSEN DEVICE. SN 11677. Cal. 30.http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=2969&page=2

I don't believe they post their sales results on-line. They sell their catalogs ($50) and those that buy them get a manual addendum mailed out that includes all of the final prices by lot number. I'm waiting for mine to arrive and will be putting up more items and pics in the Commercial Auction and Sale "Gossip" forum as I get a chance. If you have special requests by lot number, leave them in the thread and I'll put them up first.

42 Long Branch Shortened and Bubbaed Rifle

Got this in the mail today, made a few changes. Certainly not standard but still very cute, and very well modified. Bore is shiny like new 2 groove. Must admit I really like it.

It's sounds like pretty much everything went on the high side .For the exception of a few real steals it sounds like it was way over my head! I just may order one of the catalogs thou. WOW is all I can say about the sale price of the Peterson Device. I realize there rarity, but thats a big chunk of cash! Although he doesn't know me, I may just have to start harrassing Claven2 into making one. I understand he's a hell of a machinist!

Too funny! That Longbranch has a rare LB made Mk1 sight worth almost as much as the rifle - LOL. Odd to see that on a bubbatized tanker.

Re: my machining skills, I did most of my machining on CNC machines in university. What I do now, manually, on my small machines at home, is hardly comparable to what a trained machinist could do - though as an engineer, I likely understand the theory better than most - LOL
