I'm contemplating picking one up for my next project.

  • Anyone own or have owned one?
  • How do they shoot?
  • Any unusual features/traits?
  • Do any trigger improvements, are they adjustable?
  • Dislikes
I'm interested in experience based info, but also welcome random opinions :)

I got a 8M ( slightly different stock, and no safety ) and I like it. I like them slightly better than a Cooey. Due to the feed ramp, dovetail rail and cooking on close.

Cocking close can be a little stiff.

Trigger I polished the surface the trigger rides on, greased it, and shimmed it with a spacer for a slightly lighter trigger.

Intesurplus has them for 200$ both the 8-01 and 8M. 8M just got a basic trigger like a Cooey and no safety.

As for accuracy. Quater groups at 25 benched.

Not just intersurplus LOL; lots around. The one in the picture above and some (not all) appear to have a side safety, see below; or is this something else?Safety.jpg

Well I seen people trying to sell them for over 300 to 400. Shocked to see then for 200. Tax return I'll grab another for parts.

Yeah that is a 8-01.. Pretty sure it's a side safety. 8M only safety is finger off trigger or opening the bolt.

"fun-post" is full of optimistic sellers. LOL

I've been shooting a TOZ-8M for a couple years now. It's probably the top of my list as far as single shot .22's go. Incredibly accurate, and im quite fond of the Mosin style sights on it. I've taken it out to 300 yards a couple times now with some good success.

Only downside is that they are a bit crude for what they are capable of. The trigger on mine has a tendency to stick after shots, just need to clean it out a bit better and polish some surfaces. Not exactly a pretty gun either, but it does the job incredibly well!

I have one. This sights need adjustment but it groups really well. I also have an Anshutz and they deliver the same results. Admittedly that could be becuase my skill level isn't up to the Anshutz accuracy standard, but there is a big price gap

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feed back. Low risk considering the price, but I am feeling quite confident based on the bit of feed-back I got from this thread.

Shot a T0Z 17 (mag model) for years. Trigger was heavy but that thing would shoot ragged holes, super accurate. Had a TOZ 8-01 a while back, let it go for $ 185. Recently just starting working with another T0Z 17. Paid $ 119 brand new for my first T0Z 17, but that was a day or two ago. They are rock solid rifles.

Depends on what model Anschutz. Maybe the lower level ones off the Flobert action and under the CIL name.

I compare the accuracy of my 8M to a Cooey.

I’m a big fan of single shots … but I can’t, for the life of me, see the benefit of a single shot bolt action.
Never forget to bring your magazine, never have to stop mid shooting to load such mag, never gotta worry about feed issues. Dont have to pay extra for magazines. Slightly better accuracy, simple construction.

One key benefit is accuracy. Generally speaking, the .22LR rifles that produce the best accuracy are single shot bolt action models. They are used in ISSF (Olympic-style) shooting and in top level rimfire benchrest. No one uses bolt action repeaters in these disciplines.

Most casual shooters and those involved in PRS-style activities rely on bolt action repeaters.

I prefer single shots over magazine fed as far as these things go for the reasons mentioned above. I've got mobility issues with my fingers too, so just being able to drop a round in onto the ramp is really nice. I can sit down, focus on each shot and keep a slow and steady stream of shots going down range.

Another point I forgot to mention for OP:

If you're planning on mounting optics on yours, should it have a dovetail for some rings. Just note that you wont have much luck mounting rings over the cutout path for the bolt towards the rear of the receiver unless you can find some with a really really narrow base. Most i've tried will block the bolt from moving even if they are pretty slim fitting around the dovetail. If not, just make sure your scope can be comfortably fit more forward on the receiver.

Yup, you've got yours forward of the bolt handle, or atleast enough to be out of the way. I have a russian 3x scope that needs to sit further back that didn't work well, as well as some other scopes that didn't have that great of eye relief.

Most of them are extremely accurate. I have had several over the past 50 years
Way back when we had steel case 22 rimfire ammo from the USSR the TOZ was the only gun with a firing pin strike that gave reliable ignition.
