I,m having an issue resizing some brass, so I got in touch with the die company. They have been working with me to sort out the issue. We have came to the point where they want me to send the die set to them along with a few pieces of fired brass, but I,m not sure if sending the brass over the border is going to be an issue or not. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance

I went through this about 3 yrs ago. I wanted Lee to make me a custom collet die for my 6BR. They told me I would have to send them 3 cases. I explained them my case, told them where I live and that sending 3 cases could be a problem. They were adamant that they needed 3 cases. At the time I had a friend that worked at our local custom agency. I told him all the details and he said he would look into it. Later in the week he called and told me that he and his supervisor could not find anywhere where there was a distinction between 3 cases or 300 case. He then told me that if caught with no export permit the penalty could range from a simple slap on the wrist to a 5/25 K fine, being placed on a no fly list to imprisonment. I decided to go another route.
In your case maybe you could ask your die company who their Canadian distributor is, send them the cases and have them send the cases to your die company. That could be an option as I'm sure they will have the proper export permit. Hope this helps.

I sent brass to Wilson once with no issues. Just to be safe I included a printout of the email chain between me and them. They sent back the new die and the fired brass in the mail with no issue.

I send brass to Harrel in 2023 and last year - 2024 to Whidden - brass to have custom dies made. No problems at all. And I am not alone doing it from Canada to US. Do your Postal custom form properly . Fired -used rifle case sample -Value $0. Thats it.
No importer or distributor will deal with 3 cases for dies they don’t even sell to you.

You could probably drill a hole in the side near the base and then send them as decorations, like the key chains you can buy
tell it to the judge now we have people on gun stupid making up laws
offer to send the cases for this fellow and then let us know how it worked out for you

Thanks Janeau. I filled out my customs form but can't fit Fired-used rifle case sample. they only allow 25 characters. so I just put used rifle case sample. it wouldn't let me put a 0.00 value. I had to put a minimum of 1.00 per case. Should be fine you think?

You could drill right through the primer pocket, they can get any measurement they want and iits deactivated. I used to like it when I had a non compatible die, as often as not I’d get a custom cut sizing die back, for free. I say non compatible die because because it was usually a case of my chamber and die not liking each other, rather than something wrong with either one of them.

You can also enter "SAMPLES - NO COMMERCIAL VALUE" in words, right under the tariff code description. Done it many times for my employer's US-bound shipments without a problem. Been a couple years since I retired, but I was able to enter values as low as a penny apiece.
