Have a Yugo M48 Sporter. I want to rebarrel it to a "big bore"

When you say easy to find brass do you mean easy to make it? Haha I have not seen factory 9.3x57 in 3 years other than the norma cases I have and I refuse to use them 🤣
That is exactly what I mean. Size up 8 x 57. I have been doing the same for 9.3 x 62 using 30-06 range brass. They need a fair bit of trimming after resizing. First load straightens out any wrinkles in the shoulders and they work perfectly well.

I made some x57 outta 06 brass. I don’t use it though I got too many cases stuck in the dies haha

It has been 100% reliable and quite smooth, hence the reason I wanted to use it as a donor action. Zastava did a nice job polishing and bluing the various parts too.
Thanks a lot, I will be looking at these in a few weeks. The only setback is that there is not much choice in factory ammo and I would love to lay my hands on one of these in 308 win or 30-06. It’s a better choice since I’m not reloading and realistically speaking that’s all I need . Reliability is what I am looking for as some of the modern products failed on me in the past.

Some research leads me to believe that the magazine length of the Yugo M48 is 3.232 inches. Based on this, it’s pretty obvious that none of the .30-06 or standard magnum classes of cartridges will fit the M48 action. The 9.3x57 Mauser (3.2” oal) seems like a good choice.

Type VII, FN24 and Yugo actions
Action OAL: 8.500
Recvr screws, center to center: 7.620
Bolt body length: 6.115
Magazine length: 3.232
Recvr ring dia: 1.410, large ring
Barrel shank dia: 1.100, large shank

I have no shortage of factory ammo. It's out there.

This is correct, because Yugo M48 is a shorter action than a K98. The original poster will have to consider this fact which his choice of caliber, as his M48 it is not a "standard length mauser".

What is the OAL of your hand loads? Very intrigued.
They are between 85 and 87mm long. So they much be a touch long since the actions isn't 3006 size.

The 500 Jeffery was made to fit in a 3006 length Mauser action.

Edit, sorry not 3006 length but

"The .500 Jeffery was introduced to bring firepower comparable to the .505 Gibbs into a standard-sized 1898 Mauser action as used with the 8x57mm and 7x57mm cartridges."

Here is the thread on building mine

I have since thinned the barrel and it weighs 8 pounds even
