The NEXT step rifle after a Rascal.

My daughter (8years old) has been shooting with me since she was 5. She has a Rascal and she loves it. It has performed flawlessly and is just a great shooter. But it’s getting to be harder for her to shoot it especially with a the scope on it as the legth of pull and obvious lack of any form of cheek well are evident.

My thoughts are to return the rascal to the peep sights and start my now 5 year old son on it and get my daughter a new rifle that can grow with her.

Ideally I’d love a CZ457 scout but there HARD to find and costly. The benefits would be I have two other CZ457 so I have lots of mags and accessories for them. This is also a very modular rifle that can grow infinitely no matter what she wants to do going forward. The down side is the cost and the stock would need to be replaced once she out grows it?

My second thought was getting a Ruger American Rimfire compact (perhaps with peep sights. I have 10/22s so I also have many mags for this and the rifle has changeable stock modules for comb and length of pull. The down sides are this ones Probably not as accurate.

Also considered getting another newer Browning S/A 22 for her tk use as I think this one’s size bridges youth and adult well. New ones can get barrel mounted scope mounts, and it’s an amazing quality rifle. Down sides are again cost, lag of a magazine feed and handing a semi to a youth I’m unsure of.

Lastly was thinking of just modifying one of my 10/22s (likely the take down) for her to fit her better. This would be the cheapest option but again accuracy is less and I’m unsure of handing her a semi at this point (she’s shot the take down many times but I only allowed one round in the mag).

I want something that can grow with her as she grows. Something with irons she can perfect on and something that can be easily scoped. Mag fed is desired this time as she has express maybe trying competition one day. If I decide to opt for a new rifle I will likely sell one of me 10/22 rifles to fund it.

If I was in your shoes I’d just hold out for a cz. They’re high quality, and she’ll never feel like she needs to upgrade from it because they’re accurate and a quality lifetime purchase.
You may even be able to find a used stock or even someone who would do a swap when needed, offsetting the price.

I don’t think she’d suffer with the Ruger American either though. Shares mags with the 10/22, but with greater accuracy, automatic stock adjustability, and also fairly solid reputation. Maybe not at cz level, but certainly at user satisfaction level.

Savage Mark II. Shorten the stock if necessary.

If cheek weld is an issue with the Rascal you could add a cheek riser. I used an old blue camping foamy and electrical tape, then covered the whole thing with a one of those elastic buttstock shell holders.

Tikka lite compact has a shorter stock 12.5" length of pull if you can find just the stock and put it on a t1x.

Or a bit of an investment buy a t3x lite compact in the caliber she will eventually step up to. And swap the stock to a t1x. The 1" spacer will add years of use.

T1x loves cci standard velocity a huge plus.

What about a chassis for a 457 you already own? Sick something with a collapsible butt on it or one with an adjustable length of pull and fit it to her?

I was going to suggest the AMerican Rimfire compact
cheap, works with mags you have

nice enough, adn when she hits hte age where she is buyig her forecer gun, she will undertand why the CZ and other stuff is so nice

I have a bantam length mossberg 702 plinkster that fits my 8yo fairly well, shooting off a bench.
I just picked up a rascal last weekend and he can use it to practice shooting off hand for a short while, but it was bought for when my 1yo gets a little older

You can’t outgrow the CZ 457. MKII, Ruger American/Precision/1022, Tikka T1, SAKO Quad, and whoever I forgot all share certain qualities of the 457 series but none beat it out for what it’s able to give you out of the box and aftermarket accessories. It’s wild that people still ask these questions with the mountains of information on the web. I regret buying my kid a Rascal at all. Target XP model came with a sharks mouth of a chamber. I’m still not sure what to do with it.
Buy another CZ 457 and don’t look back.
Any model of your choosing can be improved upon or Gucci’d right out. Leaving it stock is hard. Gains are made so easily.
MKII will leave you disappointed. Everyone who once shot one in SWO PRS has since switched to CZ or Ruger if not a higher end. Tikka also shared this fate.

Edit:
If CZ made a 459 that was a blueprinted action that accepted threaded prefit barrels id say we’ve outgrown the 457.

Howa mini action youth. I have one in 6.5 Grendel, and 6mm arc. My son starting shooting them at a young age, very low recoil.

Choose whatever caliber you wish, they have multiple chamberings. But if hunting is a goal, I would go with the 6mm arc, or the Grendel.

I’d go with the cz 457 it’s like everyone is saying you’ll never outgrow it and will probably keep it for many years down the road. But if your want to spend a little less I personally love the Springfield armoury 2020 rimfire it’s another awesome choice definitely better than the mk2 savage

I'll add my two-pence for the CZ 457. If she's into competition and PRS down the road, you'll be getting a chassis to replace the scout stock she'll have outgrown by then, and you can sell the stock to recoup funds. Can't beat the versatility of the CZ platform, it's a rifle that will never need to be replaced, upgrade and modify as you grow with it.

Tinybear , here is another vote for the Savage Mark II. My youngest just graduated to it. I put a 2.5 scope on it, and he's pleased as punch with his "sniper" rifle. Especially since I put a light bipod on it.

Also, the MKII has almost the same bolt as the rascal, so she'll find it an easy switch. Finally, it's a good enough size for my wife and daughter, his older sister, to shoot comfortably (all three are approximately the same size). Me and the oldest boy can shoot it too, but it's a tad small. Finally, the price is nice, since they are only $100 to $150 more than a rascal.

Once kids understand and have the discipline to go 'bang' one shot at a time, I say it's time to teach them 'bangbangbang', so 10/22 or lever .22 of your liking!
