Barrel tuning with Electrical Tape

Well I would not recommend the regular model if you want to try one get the heavy barrel one. My gun has a pencil barrel and it was a fight to use the regular model. These things do not stretch like you think they would.
 
Yes, OK and you can move that around for tuning - and add another if you want more. The rubber one is supposed to 'dampen vibes' but How Much ?

I was going to try one, but canceled the order. I only got 4 inch of exposed barrel to work with. I'll echo what was said. It was a PITA putting one on my Steven 200 223. Might not be able to do a proper test and fine tuning.

At least with the shaft collar it's easier to install, and tweek. I just know that alum sleeve barrel vibrates more than a normal steel barrel.
 
Some people don't have the $$ or the place or the patience to make up loads. And the LS rubber one is likely better for a 22LR than centerfire.
 
^ Not at all what I was saying. I was commenting on the 'load development' facet of this thread, which was not at all the focus regarding 'barrel tuning. It'd take a lot of elec tape to equate the LS de-resonator . . . which was made for bow stabilizers, not barrels.
 
I've attempted the black tape on a 243 win that I couldn't get to shoot very good, inconsistent. Worked some. Tried the muzzle crown too. In the end the chamber throat was the issue. I seat the bullets out some and it made the difference. I got a rem 7 and it shoots great. It has a short chamber. The ammo is the biggest factor I think

On the subject, I'd be more inclined to use a similar solution to that shown here.

In biathlon, barrel weights are primarily used just to help with stablisation and sway but could just as easily aid in barrel harmonics with some calculations on barrel length and wave frequency. Since the clamp-on styles come in various sizes/weights, it would be an easy/permanent solution on other pencil barrels.

However, I could also see electrical tape, o-rings and other methods may assist in a damping effect.
