.243 Win 75gr out of a 20"

243 is cool, but 7mm08 is the best 308-based cartridge lol

As everyone else has said, barrel length is not a huge factor. Yeah, you'll lose a bit of velocity, something like 25-30fps per inch vs listed velocities on a 24-26" barrel, but considering you've got a 1:10 twist it's not like this is a build for super long range work so you'll be fine. 3300fps vs 3400fps isn't a big deal at moderate ranges.

My Speer #12 uses a 22" barrel for their data:

Ah thankyou, good to have some base line information with a 22".
And I guess we can agree to disagree, but personally, maybe it just fills my varmint needs better, im a huge 243 fan

So I ended up going with Varget, bought some 75gr and 58gr V-max as well as 70gr and 55gr Nosler Varmint Ballistic Tips. As this is going to be a dedicated coyote rifle.
Factory 58gr Winchester VarmintX and factory 75gr V-max shot the best by far so im pretty confident I'll be able to find something she really likes.
I also grabbed Peterson Brass and CCI Primers (couldn't find Federal Gold metal match) so hopefully everything works out.
Thanks for everyone's help I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my load development

many years ago I bought a 243 Savage 10 as a backup rifle for both coyotes and deer, but mostly as a lighter coyote rifles. The 22.250 I have has a heavy 26" bull barrel.

So initial barrel brake in and scope sight in was done with some Winchester PSP 100grn bullets and it shot great. So I got a bunch of different lighter weight bullets Speer and Nossler to work up coyote loads. Well I burnt a lot of powder and tried a lot of different combinations over the next 2 years trying to find an accurate load, but none were as good as that factory 100grn... really pissed me off. then I went and bought a box of Hornady 100grn PSP bullets and threw some loads together... low and behold no issues with getting nice little sub 1" groups.

sometimes you just have to go with what the rifle wants.

1:8 twist perhaps? I had a Savage axis years ago that was absolutely dialed with federal 55gr Nosler BT Varmint and Hornady 58gr V-max superformance (factory boxes of ammo). Surprisingly accurate.

I have a 243 for a longer range coyote rifle, 1:10 twist, and i shoot 87 vmax which i assume is about the highest bc bullet i can fire accurately in a 1:10. I tried a few powders and am now using varget. Shoots just fantastic. I guess not ideal for deer. Shoots half moa and better. If i do my part

22in bbl is the sweet spot for a field 243 rifle IMO
Good velocity and performance

My old bone stock model 10 Savage Predator has a 22in semi heavy tapered bbl

Thing shoots every factory ammo Ive tried very well and is a lazer with several different factory ammo from lightweights to 100gr sp

I also have a Rem700 I rebarreled with a Pacnor 22in fluted semi heavy barrel ....it shoots all ammo under 100gr sub moa

243 has always been a great cartridge ...hard to go wrong with it
