Ive narrowed it down to these brands.

Nightforce SHV 3-10
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10

Trijicon accuppoint 3-9
Trijicon Credo 2-10

Leupold VX3HD - hold zero?
Leupold VX5HD - hold zero?

Dont want to deal with Zeiss warranty wait times. This is for a purely hunting rifle within 50 - 400 yards. This will be backpacked. I am more of holdover guy than a dial but that can change. It will be well loved and needs to hold zero.

Budget of max 1600

Help me spend my money on my tikka in 308

Why only those brands? Sorry I don't have any experience with them. I believe those Trijicon's are pretty outdated and you're mostly paying for the brand name. As far as hunting scopes go from what I've read, Leupold fits the bill.

Get a Meopta … I have 2 and I love them
Ever since watching Cyclops Joe on YouTube (my fav scope reviewer other than the king, C_DOES) I've always wanted the Optika6. I've never seen the reticle he used though for sale anywhere, and now that entire product line is disco'd 😔 side note, I have an Athlon Midas HMR 2.5-15x50mm on my Tikka 308, that's my hunting rig and I love it.

If you don't mind the 20 ounce weight, go with the nxs 2.5-10x42. Super rugged and track perfectly. I really like mine. I also have a few leupolds, and even though they are good scopes, the tracking is not accurate. Once they're sighted in they seem to hold zero, but it is just guess work to get them zeroed. 1/4" per click, yeah right.....

Tikka Lite wearing the 3-10SHV MOAR and Warne medium splits is the way. Tight tight tight to the receiver on the integrated rail and just clears bolt and barrel so that makes the brain happy.

+1 filthy field holdovers
+1 made in J A PAN
+1 hasn’t needed a zero 8 years in

I’ve had two SHVs in the higher magnification models. Both the 4.5-14 and the 5-20. Tough with repeatable tracking and very good glass. A much better option than the Leupolds from my experience. The only reason I sold the Nightforce was I switched optics to Kahles. There are some Nightforce on the EE at present. Good luck

Hows the warranty process on them?
quote: A warranty claim may be made with the retailer from which the product was purchased, the nearest authorised dealer (the dealer list can be found at www.meoptasportsoptics.com) or directly with Meopta - optika, s.r.o. Products returned for under will be submitted for the expert examination to determine whether or not

If yer looking for reliability, that's a good short list!

The NXS would be my choice, but difficult to find within your budget.

The Accupoint 3-9 is a good scope. They are nice and light - I think there is a MIL reticle available which offers holdovers, but the turrets are only available in MOA, so there's a mismatch there.

The Credo 2-10 has turrets that match the reticle, but it's a FFP scope, so the reticle grows and shrinks with magnification. This can take some getting used to, and sometimes requires illumination to make out the reticle on lower magnifications when lighting conditions are poor. It's also 24oz, which is a little chunky.

SHV's are solid, and now that they are offered with a Moar reticle it's a compelling choice. Repeatable, reliable, turrets match the reticle. The reticle is on the fine side, especially for timber hunting, but illumination can overcome that.

Good luck in your quest, and happy shooting when you get there!

Thank you! Ive got the opportunity to purchase one at 1750 for a nxs 2.5-10. Worth it?

I’d go with a nightforce. I have a vx5 that broke the erectors on me when it was almost new. They fixed it and it’s been good ever since, but I still don’t fully trust it. I bought a zeiss for my next gun. I haven’t shot with it yet, but it seems nice.

I hear zeiss is a nightmare to warranty. Long wait times

I’ve heard they also turn people away for warranty too, but I’m hoping I won’t need it. I think nf is the safe bet.

I think vortex is ok, but you’re probably paying a bit of money for their warranty. There’s better scopes out there for what they charge. Everyrhing’s a gamble these days, but I will have a backup rifle shortly.
