Sorry for your family loss Suther, it's remarkable how deep the opioid crisis runs and how long it's been a problem that seems to be ignored or accepted. If that many people were being shot with guns imagine what the gun conversation would be!
My point that you seem to acknowledge yet miss is that Canada does have a border problem when it comes to controlling flow of fentanyl or the compounds needed to make it from entering into our Country. If the Cartel's want to set up superlabs and export some of it South as well, well that's on top of the problem we have had for over a decade..... why can't we do more to stop the flow from China or where ever it's coming from?
I heard a recent number that was around $80 billion dollars has been spent on housing refugees, providing them with phones, food money, pocket money etc in recent years since Roxham road became a port of entry complete with processing station and baggage handling by the RCMP.
Blaming the Orange Man for our home made problems is a cop out in my opinion, but clearly many would rather blame an external factor then look within.
And in case you think i'm a "Trump can do no wrong" type Maga uber alles.... I'm not convinced everything he is doing is going to work out well but I also don't have the inside knowledge of all the variables. At some points when it comes to US politics there is a pretty clear difference between the parties, though it's also pretty clear that many on team blue will think that the Steele Dossier and everything that was done illegally to go after a sitting president is just a fox news talking point.
We seem to be in a post truth reality, which I told you a year or two ago and I seem to recall you accusing me weaseling out of a disagreement at the time..... not sure if you see it yet, but it's not good for any side in my opinion.
At the end of the day I'm on the side of all of us as regular people, but were so fractured and confused that we don't stand much of a chance of putting up an opposition to what ever is coming down the Palantir pipe.
I think when it comes to some of the stuff Trump is doing in that regard he could be getting played by "advisers" who are telling him that if he doesn't get on board the Chinese will eat his lunch.... but I'm a long way from being in the room.

How about other provinces voting for Federal Govts that then tell provinces what they can and can't do with their resources?
The way things are going maybe Alberta and Saskatchewan will vote to join if a good deal is put on the table..... say $100,000 for each resident.
That would be a pretty cheap land purchase, specially if you can pull the "cash" out of thin air.
Trump and the Americans have more clout then we do in a trade war... pretending otherwise specially given how unprepared we are for rough seas is delusional..... Carney talking about bringing Canada closer to Europe and giving up on the Americans might make sense if not for the basic geographical realities and the fact that Europe is not doing well and can barely keep it self a float let alone pick up our socks.
We don't have to cave, but we should take what ever deal we can and then get down to the hard work of becoming competitive and using our resources and talents wisely.... maybe after 10 years of hard work we can renegotiate from a position of true strength and sovereignty.
Right now Canada is not a true sovereign state as we can't defend our own borders and at the end of the day our politicians for the most part proudly start every meeting by declaring that the land belongs to someone else.....

80B? I'd love to see that source. My Google results are suggesting something closer to $1B between 2017 and 2024, and that's not JUST for Roxham Rd people - the majority of that money went to Ontario while Roxham Rd is in Quebec.
