160 acres Private Hunting

I'm sorry but...Supply and demand...So plain to see the socialist/commie ideals come out when it has to with anything someone else has but others don't...Jealousy is an evil sin and for good reason.
I don't even think its that deep man. Some guys on here just like to be negative cancer. Always seem to "eat our own" mentality.
Instead of just saying "cool Idea, might not be totally legal get advice from a lawyer"
Its the tenth degree of douchebag crap talking, See it on here time and time again, It totally takes away from genuine questions
and conversations with smart guys who have great knowledge to share. REM JIM IE example along with many others.

Thid is hilarious in its entirety when the law came to existence and is enforced by Alberta conservative governments.

But guys luke you would be crying like babies if landowners could sell hunting access to the highest bidder and you had nowhere to hunt because you weren't one of them.

See how that works?

As I’ve matured as a hunter I enjoy travelling farther afield and experiencing different environments to “walk my gun” in.
This means knocking on the door of a stranger. I’m not the most gregarious person and feel awkward at what amounts to asking for a favour, so I bring a little gift (not booze) to break the ice and thank them for their time. I insist they keep the gift permission granted or not.
Am I guilty of paying for hunting?

Whats negative about pointing out the way the law is written before someone steps into a pile? Its only positive when its on your misinformed side of the discussion right?

The laws are pretty plain when it comes to this matter. Try reading them sometime. You cannot trade cash for hunting access in Alberta. Not to Joe Blow or an outfitter. Does it happen? Yes. If you're caught doing it of course. Some are willing to take that chance.

So the landowner can only give permission to an outfitter to access their privately owned land for hunting purposes BUT the outfitter can charge money to a third party for hunting on someone else privately owned land?🧐.
That’s correct. However the minute the outfitter compensates the landowner in any way it becomes illegal. You cannot pay or accept payment for hunting access in Alberta.

Something as simple as the title of this thread is probably enough to get you in trouble if someone wanted to pursue it, it establishes that the intent is to rent for hunting access. Do you intend to give hunting permission to any other party who asks if they aren’t renting? If not then one could argue that renting the cabin is required for access.

Im ranting in a general Sense bud, not directed at anyone specific. Some have made good points like yourself, Others not so much. Also yes hard to gauge on online forums peoples tone* when it comes to CGN its always a wild card.

As far as the rules and written Law, Much like taxes and such, there is always legal ways to skirt it or loopholes, weather we want to agree on them or not always some kind of loophole, maybe this could count or maybe not. That's best left to a Lawyer and not my dumbass on a forum that likes the guys idea of renting his cabin out.

I see what you are saying, However don't agree entirely. We are truly blessed here in AB with crown land. Is it ideal trophy bucks and yada yada, maybe not but we are fortunate to be able to drive out a few hours and hunt. ( If we don't have our own private land)

It could be a hell of a lot worse like some states where its all mostly private land and well in that case I see your point and would be crying.

Awesome. Just don't rent it out for the purposes of accessing the land for hunting and you will be fine.

He is offering something potentially ILLEGAL. If someone offered you a K of cocaine at a very low price, would you be all in on that, because that person was being nice?

No. The Alberta govt says it is illegal to charge someone to hunt on your private property.

The outfitters are not operating on THEIR private property. They get permission to access private land or they operate on Crown land.

BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL, thats why.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand?
Jesus…I bet your fun at parties..

I have no interest in breaking any laws, I have always followed the rules and will continue to.
It may take awhile to figger out the cabin rental and the in's and outs but it will be above board.

I have 160 acres 1/4 section that I am setting up for resident hunters, 70 acres Alfalfa creek runs thru the quarter.
Nice cabin, Blinds 1 heated, Great Whitetail hunting also Elk and a few Moose.
This would be for Alberta resident hunters.
Just wondering if there is any interest in this ?
Well, Ive read most of this thread (quit somewhere on page 5) and if it were me, after reading all the responses I would post the land and close it permanently to public access. Done deal not because what you are proposing is illegal (from what you have posted it appears to me that it is clearly NOT illegal) but I would discuss it with fish and wildlife to make sure you don’t inadvertently word something wrong. Even then, WAY too many douche bags out there (as ecvidenced in this thread) that would go out of their way to make your life miserable (some of them are likely the very ones that hunt on private land without permission all the time). Keep the cabin AND the hunting access personal or immediate family and save yourself a lot of grief.

Saskatchewan has the same no charging for hunting laws as Alberta. The older I get the dumber it seems. Is it your land or not? You can charge for just about any other access you can imagine, but not hunting. While it does keep hunting cheaper for joe public, putting it into law seems like being pretty generous with someone else's stuff. Maybe it’s time to join the rest of the friggen world.

The reason why the law is made is because we as landowners do not own the wildlife that passes through their land. As soon as you allow landowners to charge for access landowners begin to think they own the wildlife that belongs to everyone.

Also becomes a game of he with the most money to pay, wins and the everyday tax paying resident loses.

^^ but tax payers can use crown land for free and you already cant hunt on private land, so you wouldn't be out anything.

its already like what you said they are trying to stop, if someone owns the land you cant hunt on it and you need to use crown, so charging for the private land use or not affect anyone at all, actually it would make it better as people with money or lazy hunters would then be on private land taking the pressure off the crown land

not if the owner says no, sure maybe if you know the guy. but a regular person cant just walk onto peoples land and hunt, they need to use crown land. so allowing them to charge would open up a lot more private land that could be hunted on, easing up the use of crown land, everyone wins

Asking permission to hunt private land is not hard. I know piles of landowners hardly any of them deny access for hunting, including myself. They just can’t accept payment for access.

Pretty simple.

Every province seems to have different regulations. In Manitoba as far as Inknow it is not illegal to charge money to hunt on private land. But yet in Saskatchewan it is legal to bait game. I see tv shows in Saskatchewan where people in blinds are shooting bucks standing knee deep in a hay bale. Here in Manitoba they would lock you up for that. Only allowed to bait bears. In fact hunting less than 300 yards from an unharvested crop or bales on the field is considered hunting on or near bait, go figure.

Up here in the Yukon no bait for anything! Not even allowed to use live worms for fishing no live bait allowed! I’m happy with all of it to be honest.

I don’t like asking for permission much. It makes me feel like a cap in hand beggar, asking strangers for a scrap of bread, spare change or a smoke. Paid hunting makes it fair more friendly; it changes the dynamic to a transaction, or an inquiry about one. Far more friendly, its like asking for a hotel room, I don’t take it too personal if there aren’t any vacancies and they don’t care if I found the price too high and walked away.
Other provinces and other countries seem to get along with paid access. When I tell them that at home access can’t be bought they think that the concept is retarded.

I’m on no particular side on this, I have land that people hunt for nothing and land that nobody has enough money to buy their way onto if it was legal. Been on the other side, hunted for nothing and paid to do it. If asked what made sense though, paid access is the only thing that does. Not to say givng it away if you chose doesn’t..
