Anyone hunting new to them rifles this year?

I'll take my Sauer 202 lightweight, fluted barrel .270 on it's first deer hunt, probably for mule deer but maybe whitetails too. It's the only rifle I have with a scope that has a bullet drop compensating turret, will give that a try for the first time too, but really don't expect to shoot over 300yds. so the turret is just coming along for the hunt. I'll also be carrying a very nice old Mannlicher-Schoenauer model GK 7x64 full stock carbine on my first ever hunt for barren land caribou in northern MB. That's in just one week! It's an exciting opportunity, and is the same make of rifle carried by the author P.G Downes in his book Sleeping Island: The Story of One Man's Travels in the Great Barren Lands of the Canadian North. Nice to carry a bit of history and make my own in the same spot.

Bought a Savage Axis in 400 Legend (insert jokes here lol), and topped it with a el cheapado Burris 3x9 from Stoeger. Both on sale, $449 and $149? before taxes, and weighs in right around 7 lbs. A few days until bear season is back on, so I'll be dragging that along.
I bought a used 783 in 308 for my grandson. Topped with a 1.5-5 Leupold will be a handy rifle pkg. The plan is to do light loads with 150s at around 300 Savage velocities.
The bore was good but was full coated with baked on carbon. That was an ordeal, but we prevailed. Now I have to wait for the range to open again. All closed to the fire ban here. No one in the woods.

Elk hunting; will be carrying my LH Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7mm PRC with Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 B&C, shooting Federal 170 gr Terminal Ascent ammo.
Moose and black bear hunting; LH Browning X Bolt All Weather in 308 WIn with Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 B&C, shooting Federal 175 gr Terminal Ascent ammo. (Was hoping to be carrying my LH Rem 700 in 358 Win with Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 FireDot, shooting 225 gr SGK handloads...but I do not have my load dialed in quite yet...)
Mountain hunting: LH Browning X Bolt Hunter in 6.5 PRC with Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 B&C, shooting Nosler 142 gr LRAB ammo.

Finally got a chance today to unbox an Antler 308 Mountain rifle from Prophet River...Real happy with the quality, feel and pointability...Just have to decide on a scope...A Nightforce C-458 is what I'm thinking should complete this package to a T...Already have a sh!t ton of 308's but something about this one has me excited about this fall.
I have 3 in the safe that I have never hunted but plan on getting them out for at least a walk about.
We have a new hunter in the family so went looking for a low recoil gun that was safe and reliable. Stumbled upon a Sako 85 Grey Wolf in 308 that has won my heart. I took it to the range with several boxes of factory ammo after struggling with my 30-06 Finnlight to find an accurate load. No struggle here. All were hunting accurate and 3 of the 5 would shoot cloverleafs. I never had a 308 before and this one will be getting out for sure on at a few early season hunts.
I also have a Sako Finnbear Deluxe in 7 RM that needs to get out. I received it from an older hunter and it came with some wild tales of accuracy and magical hunting prowess along with several boxes of unknown ammo marked for different occasions . The metal is extremely good but the wood needed a full strip and refinish. It turned out awesome. I was a little worried about shooting the old ammo so picked up the cheapest factory ammo at the local retailer, Norma Whitetail 150 gr., to try the rifle for function. A trip to the range and this flip turned into a keeper really quick. I fired 7 RMs before and although the recoil wasn't obnoxious it seemed sharp and unnecessary. The Finnbear has just the right weight for a magnum and the stock fits perfectly making it a sweetheart to shoot. The Norma Whitetail shot really good, well within an inch. I got brave and tried the unknown ammo as well. The one marked 160 gr Elk produced some of the tightest groups I have ever fired from a rifle. I should have just sold it as I already had a buyer for this beauty but it has now found a home here. It will most definitely be seeing some time in the bush this year.
Lastly is a new to me 303 British. I hunted for many years with a Parker Hale Supreme that my late father bought me. I shot all of my largest Whitetails with it. Convinced by internet experts, I foolishly sold opting for something more modern. I obviously regretted the sale and watched for another example. Fortunately I found one with excellent wood and barrel just as it left England. I wouldn't say never fired but it would be difficult to prove otherwise. I thought I would just have it around for old times sake but this one is as accurate as a 303 can be and needs to hunt. I have shot thousands of rounds from similar rifles and shooting the 303 again is like being reunited with an old friend. My old one was pie plate accurate at 200 yards and seemed a foolish choice with much more accurate choices available. This one shoots 3-4 inch groups at 200 yards and wouldn't be a handicap in the least to carry in the bush I frequent.

I’m very curious how that works out. I’m looking at getting one in the future.
I went with a t3x in .308 1:10 twist sitting in walnut and topped with an Apex edge 1-10 lpvo.
Now busy with my ladder for 165gn interlocks over varget and the same in 150’s to see what it likes.

I got a new tikka roughtech 30-06 with a 20” barrel. I’m in love with it lol.
Anyway I missed a mountain goat about 3 weeks ago on a steep 350 yards shot. Shooter error. Hoping to redeem myself on a whitetail in a few weeks. 190 ABLR @ 2630fps

She's a real shoulder hammer, I will say this. Fine off hand and sitting, but benchrest is painful. I have it zeroed in for 150.Need rain bad here in NB for sure. Streams look like gravel roads. Monsoons will probably hit in moose season. Haha
