Anyone hunting new to them rifles this year?

Looks like it wants to shoot too.

I shot this 1st group with it yesterday at 50yds while sighting it in. Note date typo. :)

The good news is that it likes Remington 200gr Core Lokts. The bad news is that news is that's all I had (5 rounds) and you can't buy them any more. :(

Didn't I send you a whack of .358 bullets? I was out to the range tonight... my .350 RM carbine [250 Partitions) and. 458 carbine (400 Barnes Original SSP's) are shooting bug holes, my 7.62X57 HC (180 Accubonds) is always great, and trotted out the .375 WSM (235 TSX) for the week of moose hunting..

You certainly did send me a good supply of 250gr Speer HCs. This was the 1st time I fired this rifle so was burning up a few odds and ends bullets zeroing the scope and doing a small break in. The Remington bullets were a part of this. The Speers you sent are up next. They should be a handful in that little rifle. Also will change out those rings to something a bit nicer.

Not a new rifle this year but i do tend to pick a different main rifle each year.

Before the season starts i'll bring a few to the range to check their zero and make sure everything is still good before the season and each time one just gives me a good feeling. Sometimes it's group size, consistency, recoil, or just a feeling that things will go well.

This year it's a browning Abolt III in .270 shooting superformance 140gr SST's. We will see starting Monday morning when the season opens if the good feeling holds up.

No new rifles to take out, but my take-down stainless Cva scout 35 whelen has never been deer hunting. If the weather sucks, I think I’ll take it along. I’ll be tenting out in the bush and it’s by far the quickest and easiest rifle to wipe down after returning to camp.

Picked up an early Prairie Gun Works M18 Ti yesterday. It was part of an estate, and I got called to help figure out what it was. What it was is a proprietory titanium action pre-2003, unknown make 24”stainless fluted barrel, unknown for now carbon fibre sporter stock, chambered in 7 mm STW and weighing in at 5.68 pounds. It had no indication of ever having fired which is the limited amount of family story as well.
Took it home, set the trigger and mounted a 4.5-14 V 3 LR on it that I had laying around. A couple hours ago I figured I might as well walk out the garage door and shoot it to see if anything was going to fall off. I have about 6 boxes of Nosler 160 Accubond factory loads that I must have got cheap somewhere so figured I might as well start there at least to get it sighted in. One shot at a card board box at 25 because I was too lazy to bore sight it, 3 MOA left scope adjustment then half way across the yard for 6 shots. Just 125 yards but 6 in 11/4”. Nothing fell off either. 3 click windage correction.

Hmm, what else could I do? Dug around a bit and found some 140 NBT and H1000 loads that have worked in just about every STW I’ve owned, and wasn’t overly concerned about working up. 6 in under an inch, again thats at 125 so you know, math. Shot to the same POI too; which may not be very important but doesn’t hurt anything either. Might take it to the other side of the road and shoot it out to 800 or so; and empty out some brass, or maybe I’ll just go shoot a deer with it instead. Its hunting season anyway.
Yeah, so yeah I’ll hunt a new to me rifle this year.😂

Dang Dogleg!
I suppose you strapped it to the side of the old knucklehead they had tarped in the barn.
Ahh, the elusive barn find😂. A guy can dream right? I do get calls about motorcycles too, bought a couple this summer in much the same way. Call comes with the can’t refuse price. An Electraglide and KTM factory racer.

I started out this year with a Win M70 'Featherweight' .308Win. I was okay with the rifle hunting in the thick stuff with close range shooting, but as the hunt progressed I got watching a big powerline, where there were gonna be some longer shots.
For me long range is 300 yards.
Anyway I wasn't too fussy asking the M70 to do work out to that distance, and so I swapped it out for my old faithful M700 .30-06, which is a proven shooter.
I ordered a new Bell & Carlson stock for the M70, just arrived today.
I'm gonna get it glass bedded and do some more work with, so maybe I'll take it out next year.

Hahaha. To switch your .308 for 30-06 is its own thread all on its own lmao!

But I get. Barrel length vs fair chase
You want the best of confidence behind the trigger. 👍🏼

For .308 I carry my dad’s M88 post 64.
Shoots like a bolt action!
