JHP for Sterling R9

I just tried to find the FRT on armalytics and I can't find it. Forgive my ignorance but it's prohibited right? Somewhat irrelevant what works in it or not

He didn't ask about that, he asked about feeding reliably with JHP ammo.
Some of you really gotta start reading and paying attention to the first post of a thread.

I did. Notice I said it's irrelevant, ie it's prohibited and we as law abiding owners can't shoot it.

You do realize that some people are still able to (legally) own and shoot anything prohib, right?

To my knowledge that's only the actual full auto/converted autos that were prohibited in the 70s or 80s or whatever. And they won't give you an att to take it to a range, it has to be stored on site of a range or something to that effect, then since you dont need to transport it youre okay to shoot it. But I have been known to be wrong before.

Prohibited handguns are still okay to take to the range

Some people just don’t GAF about the Liebral/poly criminals and their unjust bans and continue to use their things that they aquired legally
I don’t have one of those so can’t help with the OPs question but Bartok did lots of testing with those so he prob knows what works and what doesn’t
Maybe he will chime in with a suggestion

On a side note, if you have a safe place to shoot on your own private land, could you still shoot one of those OIC guns ?

You are. I have met many people with business licenses that permit possession/ownership/use of all types of prohibited firearms (named prohibs, full auto, short barreled, etc.) and prohibited devices (suppressors, full cap mags) at almost any place it is legal to discharge a firearm. You would be surprised to know what people legally own and use out there beyond the interwebz.

If OP has a business license he certainly is/was not breaking any law taking his R9 out to shoot.

On a side note, if you have a safe place to shoot on your own private land, could you still shoot one of those OIC guns ?
Not legally.

So, if I applied for a buisness license to say, import bolt action rifles, I would be able to get say, an mg42 full auto, and shoot it at any gun club/range?

This is assuming it's fairly easy to get a buisness license?

And all hypothetical, I don't think I could ever afford an mg42, much less afford the ammo to shoot it lol.

Sadly, not.

Roughly in order:

1) When you apply there are lots of choices to be made. You have to tick a box for every thing you want, from possession and transport for each class of firearm, whether you want to possess them only or manufacture/repair them, import/export and so on. Manufacturing firearms for sale and movie armourer are the most expensive licenses, but most of the other options are pretty reasonable.

To get prohib access you need to have a legitimate business activity that requires it. You can't just apply and make something up, they will check and require documentation for your story.

I was going to post a link to the application form, but it seems to have been taken down or hidden away somewhere. The form is titled "RCMP GRC 5486e" and is a fillable pdf. If you can find it online and download it all the details of the license and fees are in there.

The licensing regulations that dictate the rules: https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-199/index.html

Part 2 covers business licenses and section 22 gives the prescribed purposes for getting a license.

2) I don't know if the CFO will explicitly prohibit you from using full auto at a range, but they STRONGLY discourage it and most (maybe all?) ranges won't allow it. I think the reason it is heavily discouraged is the powers that be don't want the peons to realize that some people get to have all the fun things they are prohibited from owning. This might cause some serious discontent and heart burn for the authorities if it became common knowledge.

3) As noted above, it is not easy to get a business license. Once you have one it isn't too hard to keep it, but there are substantial barriers to entry in the first place.

EDIT - Apologies to OP for the tangent. Back to our regular programming. Does anybody have a 9mm JHP that works well in the R9?

Okay, thank you, I learned something new today

Anyone find a JHP that feeds reliably in the Sterling R9?

I tried Winchester Ranger and they don't feed at all. 😢

I cannot help with your question (I have never even seen an R9) but I do know that some PCCs (and even some handguns) are CRAZY fussy with regard to OAL so it would be worth trying some different lengths (assuming you reload and can adjust these sort of variables).

On problematic guns it seems 1.085" is a good starting point - I know people with fussy rifles and handguns and that seemed to be the sweet spot.

see post #9

one on topic,

I'd try federal but not syntech

What weight 124gr or 147gr?
It seemed like you were making a suggestion, not that you had tried it and knew it worked?

I had a look at the Fed JHP and based upon the size of the HP, I am pretty sure those won't feed. The Win Ranger don't feed at all and I tried 147gr FP bullets and they don't feed either.

FWIW, 147gr.

I'm thinking of trying some 160gr RN just to see if they feed reliably.
