Show us yer Calgary GunShow junk...

Not sure how they will be able to expand the show in the future, since they have now filled the entire room with tables. It just keeps getting bigger and better.

they can just open the next room as the walls are all moveable

or better yet move to somewhere off the stamped grounds to break the monopoly on show space in calgary...maybe that new mall/racetrack/convention center by airdrie?

I have seen other shows where the next step of an expansion like this is an expensive one. A lot of time, to remove that next wall, the rent goes up significantly, while the tables sold may only go up by 20 or so.

While I like the roundup center, I must say it kind of seems crappy when you have to pay more to park than to actually get in to the show. We had a 3 day pass....$33. Some bargain.

Ho much was the MG42 bolt and butt. If you don't mind me asking? That's a nice find, not sure but it looks like you found some MP40 mags (that's what they look like to me but I might be wrong) :slap:

the 42 bolt was 200 skins (50 less than MarStar) and is a 7.62 Yugo bolt

the Butt I already had but after speakin to a vendor about stripping the nasty black paint and refinishing the wood I decided to try it....looks WAAAY better now

The mags are Uzi....but there were lots of MP40 mags at the show for anywhere from $75 to $125

At least they don't charge to use the Roundup Center Washrooms...yet!:D

Wait for it.

The food was no bargain either, especially the soda pop. Pizza was $4 a slice. Pretty much the same prices you pay at the summer fair if I recall.

But these are petty issues compared to the quality of the gunshow itself. I WILL be going back next year, even if they doubled the price of parking.

What is it with you people? Always complaining about overpriceing.

If you think the prices are to high, don't buy. If you can't afford it, such is life. It doesn't mean either you or the sellers are bad people.

That particular show at the stampede center is extremely expensive to put on. Not to mention a lot of work by a few dedicated individuals.

The vendors of food, pay for the privilege to sell their products exclusively at the premises and they pay a lot. Because of the amount of people eating, it is impossible to provide a restauraunt atmosphere or the same quality of food, therefore they settle for an acceptable alternative.

There are no free rides there or any gun show for that matter.

Those vendors come from all over Canada to sell and trade their wares. Neither travel or accomodations are cheap and must be covered by the sales at the show.

Many of the guns do travel from show to show and are traded between vendors in an almost endless cycle.

Looking for a deal? Make an offer on one of the cyclic guns, even a lowball offer, you might just get it.

Remember, the sellers can always come down in price, but they can't go up.

These shows operate on the barter system, the vendors like haggling and tradeing. Actually most of them would rather trade than sell. Get in there and haggle, enjoy it, the sticker price is very seldom set in ink. Make a lowball offer and settle someplace in between.

Another thing, if you really can't even afford the sticker price for entry and parking, unnegotiable, how can you afford to buy at the show.
If you're there just to look and converse with like minded people, where else are you going to find such an opportunity?

Suck it up and enjoy. Learn from others there and pass on a little of your own knowledge. There's lots of great guns there and we would all like to go home wit one or more or even the accessories but as always, everything is in constant flux, keep up or get left behind.

Someone posted in the Events and Gathering, that the rent for the Gun Show was $30,000 for the 2 days! Pour me another $4 small Coke and a $5 hotdog please! I guess that's why the Blue Mountain Antique Show packed it in and is going to Spruce Meadows in August.

What was rent for a table this year?

I had a pretty good time just looking, didn't buy one thing, not even an overpriced hot dog, pizza slice or pop.
I especially liked looking at the Japanese rifles and pistols, that was neat to see them in person, although I wish I could have handled them too, but they were under glass.
I wish there had been more pistols to look at overall, but was happy there were some at all.

I also enjoyed the displays, especially some of the SA revolvers and Japanese firearms/bladed weapons.
As a side note, does anyone know what kind of locks were used in the Japanese pistols? I'm looking for some "low profile" gun locks to use in a display case. I bought one of those Virsual Locks to try out, but the huge red end makes it look like an airsoft gun and diverts attention (perfect for regular transport/storage, but not great for a historical display).

Thanks.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

Thanks a lot Nyles!

I'm in for a day of interesting reading tomorrow.

The locks themselves don't look too hard to make with the appropriate tools. The only downside to the particular design is that it can't be used with solid framed revolvers.

As always it was a hell of a good show.
A less displays then years previous, but plenty of selection of other stuff.
Couldn't figure out which gun manufacturer made the dishes and bowls on one table though.
What did I buy?
Garand parts.
1918 dated Pattern 1907 SMLE bayonet.
M1945 suspenders (US issue)
Did not buy any food though...BP's in Strathmore filled that void.
Cheers

Nyles, great looking display.... and even though I'm not a handgun guy or a collector, the thing that came to mind when I was looking at the effort you put into researching and displaying your collection was "And this is the kind of guy that the anti-gun crowd would say shouldn't have this particular hobby."....

It simply makes me sick to think of the billions spent on the registry, and the hoops that members of the firearms community have to jump through in order to shoot, or collect, or simply own.
It makes me sicker to think of the criminals out there who commit gun crimes and get off with a "be a good boy and don't let me catch you again". Not one of them would give a rat's ass about your collection if they got the opportunity to steal it, and afterward the anti's would be saying "See, toldja so. If he hadn't have had that nice collection, then these guns wouldn't have found their way onto the street."

Bullets, 500 Sierra 150 grain BTHP, Sten Magazine, Garand Clips. I'd never eat at the Stampede Ground's, went to Hooters instead. The most memorable moment was when I ran into an old friend who I hadn't seen in 19 years........ priceless
