Don’t have one…..Budget. We need to know your budget before we can offer the good suggestions.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the feedback! I currently run a nightforce on my sheep/elk rifle and a Leica on my deer/dog rifle and love both! I will definitely be meeting up with guys to check out what they are running. Prs guys are great! Have already been getting welcomed into the community with open armsAs above, head along to some PRS comp's, meet up with a few guys, spin some BS, and check out what they are using. There was a study done last year, think it was US based, on the popularity of scopes for PRS. Sorry, cant seem to find it to get a link. European glass is common, particularly Kahles and S&B. From memory the Mk4 and Mk5 Leupold really hold their own, and if you want a scope to drive some nails home after your finished shooting, then Nightforce is the go to. A common mistake with beginner PRS shooters is to go for real high magnification - 18 -20X top end will cover nearly all scenarios's with lots of feild of view for quick target acquisition. Having hung around the local PRS circuit for a few years, and having a son that represents on the world stage, my suggestion's would be Leupold if you dont wanta remortgage the house and farm. Or NF if you want something filthy rugged, but the glass just aint quite as good as European. Burris, Arken, Leica all make an appearance. For me, I'll just stick to Kahles cos they simply perform!
I have found the PRS guys are very welcoming and happy to share knowledge. After a match we often see new guys down on the mound trying out other shooters rifle's, sending rounds down range and ringing steel. Check out their scopes for clarity on target, ability to dial cleanly when pressured. And eyebox! - make sure the scope you choose has plenty of length for the eyebox so you dont scope yourself on a quick or hurried positional change.
Thank you for the recommendations! I will do some digging into them.Best options at various price points:
- $600 arken ep5 5-25
- $900 arken 7-35, or DNT the one (nearly the same scope)
- $2200 Athlon Cronus 4.5-29
- $4500 Razor Gen3 6-36
- $6200 ZCO 8-40 or Kahles 5-40
Will look into it. Thank you!If budget is no option also check out the March FX 5-42x56 PRS Edition. It's getting great reviews.
Have to be careful with this one. The March part numbers and names are pretty confusing, and they made a big generational change to this scope model without making it clear in the name whether you are buying the new or the old one. Will look into it. Thank you!
Good point. The model is D42HV56WFML-G2-FML-WBRHave to be careful with this one. The March part numbers and names are pretty confusing, and they made a big generational change to this scope model without making it clear in the name whether you are buying the new or the old one.
Winning in the Wind youtube channel put out a video recently praising the new generation one.
There's one in the EE right now for sale, but I think it is the old generation.
I actually have one right now still sitting in the box but I’m not a huge vortex fan.Vortex Venom, the lense clarity is insane.
Edmonton currently. Travel regularly to Grande Praire and Peace River.Where are you located? We Might be able to connect you with some shooters in your area to have a look at what they’re running. Or provide links to the nearest match to check out.
Oh okay. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll keep that in mind when lookingHave to be careful with this one. Hey Robbie do you happen to be located west of Calgary? If you don't have a fixed budget, then 2 scopes that stand out are the Tangent Theta 7-35x56 and the new Kahles K540i. I have both in stock.
These are 2 of THE best scopes money can buy right now. The field of view and glass on the newly launched Kahles K540i are out of this world. Tangent Theta is Canadian made, so a very very good choice as well.
You're welcome to call me and I can talk to you about options. I am also a Nightforce and Leica dealer - and I've owned and used NF, Kahles, S&B, March, ZCO, Tangent, Vortex Razor and a few other brands too... My favourite scopes right now, are the Tangent Theta 7-35's and the Kahles K540i.
For a budget scope that can do 95% of all the above named ones, look at the DNT 7-35x56 I also sell. Superb value for money at only $900. It's Japanese glass is good - just the Euro scopes and TT have much nicer glass - if that's what you're after.
Just my 2c.
Cheers
Robbie
