Yes it’s possible. There are rear ghost ring sights that clamp on receiver mounted picatinny rails of the M4 shotgun or any other for that matter

Maybe not with the Picatinny rail, but if it's anything like the direct mount I got from TacOrd, my ACRO P2 cowitnesses on my 1301.

They're going to be thin on the ground here in Canada now that ARs are forbidden fruit, but there are fold down-pop up sights that are designed to allow cowitnessing in the event your holographic or red dot optic fails. They work quite well, as a backup system but you do need a suitable rail setup. Available from a site sponsor, probably best to call them for advice but here's a front sight:

I got that, it's why I suggested talking to a pro. I have the tac model but with a bead front sight I'd need some sort of adapter mount. Or you could look for high mounts for the optic, that would be my option but I'm not sure how high I want to go.

While not an M4, I put a scarlworks I think it was? mount on a beretta 1301 with a Holosun on it and it co witnesses perfectly with the factory ghost ring and front sight
I’m pretty sure they made a similar mount for the Benelli

You could try a Bushnell TRS-25. They are the lowest pic rail mount dot I've found, though not super quality.
Also, run your front bead up as high as you can with spacers, bring up rear as well to zero and have best shot at co-witness.

Guess the only way is to put the rear sight on the rail. I'll just stick with the stock irons and no red dot. Can't see the dot in bright sunshine anyways.

Scalarworks makes a red dot mount that cowitnesses with the irons. It's only works with certain micro red dot footprints.

With the Bushnell TRS 25? I don't think so. Your optic comes with a integral rail so it's only work with a pic rail. I think you're out of luck.

If you want to keep the rail installed and not use a mount directly on the receiver, and are open to a different sort of “co-witness”, you could consider a Holosun AEMS or ScalarWorks Leap mount (comes with various footprints). The riser “gap” has enough space to see thru below the optic and still use the ghost ring sights (it works on some other Benelli models anyway)

Just back up. And bright light. Can't see the dot against a light background in full daylight

You need a 4 moa aimpoint on there! You will want for nothing with daylight brightness or using a weapon light.

when the dot dies can still use irons and its very easy to use. not very cluttered

Another idea is to use a red dot like the Aimpoint PRO that will snap right off in the unlikely event it fails or isn't bright enough. It holds zero pretty well too, going back on.
