School me on SKS’s

Bought one a lil while back at Cabelas that looked as-new/unissued as well.

They sure will never be cheaper. Sticks in my craw to pay this much for one now.

But they will only get more expensive and less legal.

wow that’s a mirror!
this guy didn’t leave his gun uncleaned for 10 minutes after shooting
That was right after getting the Cosmo off, I hadn't fired it yet. The 'stain' was likely after factory testing, then it was Cosmo'd ?
But it looks almost the same after 535, just a bit more 'staining' in the edges.

Pictures would be nice

Not sure what you are looking for. Most current Chinese SKS are surplus new and the pricing is excellent. You can get French tickler or a Jungle stock for below $650, can't get any better. If you want a Russian there are a few well priced ones on the EE. Much cheaper than dealer pricing.

Those are all milled receivers, you would pay a fortune today if new ones would be manufactured.

If you are concerned about condition, just call up some reputable dealers, not Tenda.

theammosource has 14 % off right now with free shipping which brings the French tickler to $636 and you can pay it in installments.

When reference the Russian SKS’s and the Chinese French Tickler which of those 2 have the milled receivers ?

If you find a rare stamped receiver, it will get you big $$ in the US. It is more common that the trigger group is stamped. You can identify milled or stamped by the edges the stamped ones have.

My apologies but I still don’t think I get it

All Russians are milled, both receiver and trigger groups. Most Chinese have milled receivers and milled trigger groups but many do also have stamped trigger groups. I have both and it does not make a difference to me.The Chinese ones are better shooters from my experience. I have some Chinese which I just put into nice Russian stocks, best of both worlds.

Thank You Scianna. I’m really excited on entering the world of SKS’s

From what I have gathered it’s better to shoot non corrosive ammunition in these rifles .
Are there any brands that are better than others or is it just like any other ammunition ?

I would assume some SKS’s like a certain brand and others a different one
Just like any other rifle

Do the mags need to be adjusted to only hold 5 rounds ie.Pinned ?
Also can you legally use 10 round stripper clips ?
As you know I’m not savvy to this rifle yet
Mags are limited to 5, as it is a semi auto. Clips are not regulated, they are not magazines, so you can use them no problem.
