[Opinion]

The main stream of shotguns (Winchester, Remington, Mossberg, Ithica, and others) have a very high success rate. I know it sucks, but sometimes you get a lemon or an 'off production' one, and sometimes you get one in one brand and replace it right after with a lemon in another brand! I give the common 'big names' a 97% grade.

The Turkish guns, when they do exact copies, have issues usually resulting from needing slight burrs removed and just rough machining. They cost less for a reason, but if you have more time than money you can make the Turkish copies work flawless. There are a few Turkish copies of more complex guns, or where they have made the parts individual to them (proprietary parts, stock attachments, fore ends, ejection systems and other 'unique changes' they made) that I refuse to buy as they are just poor overall. Also, turkish guns of 'higher quality' are usually not, such as 'high end' O/Us and Semis: if you want quality and higher end actually buy one from a big brand. I score the Turkish companies as a 87%+ grade with normal pump copies being a 92%+ and everything else being a 80%.

Chinese stuff is 50%. You can get a great one, needing smoothing out, as common as you can get junk.

For me, I don't shoot a shotgun much. A Turkish shotgun, smoothed out and de-burred, cheap as they are works fine for 85% of what I do. For anything else one nice gun, brand name and of solid quality at not a low price.

If you shoot very little or have little money try the Turkish pump guns.
If you have some money and shoot some, a camo 12ga super magnum pump and a decent 20ga O/U (or pump) is likely all you will ever need.
If you shoot a lot, look at the best you can afford in that specialty (ie: duck hunting, a 12ga 3" camo pump OR upland game, a 20ga sporting pump) in a big name brand.

My suggestions for good reliable sporting pumps:

-Mav 88
-Mossy 500, 590 or 590A1
-Remington 870's - ideally a Field, Wingmaster or Police model. The Express guns can be touch and go.
-Ithaca 37 (not the 87)
-Browning BPS (a bit heavy, but beautifully made and reliable)
-Winchester Model 12
-Winchester Model 1897
-S&W 3000 (it's a good 870 clone, but is different enough that parts are starting to become an issue if you need any)

Some people have had luck with the Chinese 870 clones, though every one I've owned or worked on needed a little tweaking to run as well as the real deal.

I don't buy Turkish guns. I also don't buy modern polymer or aluminum space-age looking pump guns. Maybe others like those and have luck with them, but I stick to the above models and they've never disappointed.

There are lots of other older wood and steel pumps out there, but not all of them are great, and many of them you will encounter parts availability issues if anything breaks.

Benelli Nova is great value and mine has been bullet proof ( never tried the super nova) Mossberg is also great value but never owned one. Still use Grandpas Ithica with nary a problem. BPS ( almost the same as Ithica) are great as well.

I have a few Turkish and now 2 Chinese. I must say ergonomic with China brutal
Turkish can be clunky but I haven't had issues yet. Maverick 88 and the mossberg 500 they don't mess up they don't .solid units but so far the Turkish is as well ,mag fed, smoother even just better cycling from mossberg. And then 1 Remington. It's a 877 I bought it for waterfowl 3/12 magnum. Ffs it binds all the 3/12 loads kicks you in the cheek like a mule had a recall (mine is post recall) because of recall no one wants it. A quick squirt to the breach and barrel after soggy day hunting it's cleaned but it's torture to shoot
