The main stream of shotguns (Winchester, Remington, Mossberg, Ithica, and others) have a very high success rate. I know it sucks, but sometimes you get a lemon or an 'off production' one, and sometimes you get one in one brand and replace it right after with a lemon in another brand! I give the common 'big names' a 97% grade.
The Turkish guns, when they do exact copies, have issues usually resulting from needing slight burrs removed and just rough machining. They cost less for a reason, but if you have more time than money you can make the Turkish copies work flawless. There are a few Turkish copies of more complex guns, or where they have made the parts individual to them (proprietary parts, stock attachments, fore ends, ejection systems and other 'unique changes' they made) that I refuse to buy as they are just poor overall. Also, turkish guns of 'higher quality' are usually not, such as 'high end' O/Us and Semis: if you want quality and higher end actually buy one from a big brand. I score the Turkish companies as a 87%+ grade with normal pump copies being a 92%+ and everything else being a 80%.
Chinese stuff is 50%. You can get a great one, needing smoothing out, as common as you can get junk.
For me, I don't shoot a shotgun much. A Turkish shotgun, smoothed out and de-burred, cheap as they are works fine for 85% of what I do. For anything else one nice gun, brand name and of solid quality at not a low price.
If you shoot very little or have little money try the Turkish pump guns.
If you have some money and shoot some, a camo 12ga super magnum pump and a decent 20ga O/U (or pump) is likely all you will ever need.
If you shoot a lot, look at the best you can afford in that specialty (ie: duck hunting, a 12ga 3" camo pump OR upland game, a 20ga sporting pump) in a big name brand.
